2 Global response n 2015 In 2015, UNICEF responded to 310 humantaran stuatons n 102 countres, the latter a record and comprsng 65 per cent of UNICEF offces. The number of stuatons s the most snce 2005, when UNICEF began surveyng country offces. Snce 2010, UNICEF has responded to an average of over 290 humantaran stuatons n nearly 90 countres each year. Many of these are handled by UNICEF offces buldng off of preparedness measures already undertaken and usng exstng resources, hghlghtng the mportance of UNICEF s presence before, durng and after a crss. 4 Delverng humantaran results for chldren These are some of the key humantaran results acheved aganst targets for chldren by UNICEF and partners n In some contexts, achevements were constraned by lmted resources, ncludng across sectors; nadequate humantaran access; nsecurty; and a challengng operatng envronments mllon people accessed suffcent quantty of water of approprate qualty for drnkng, cookng and personal hygene 84% 2 mllon chldren aged 6-59 months wth severe acute malnutrton admtted to programmes for treatment 65% 3.1 mllon chldren accessed psychosocal support 97% 23 mllon chldren aged 6 months 15 years vaccnated for measles 43% 7.5 mllon chldren (3-18 years old) accessed formal or non-formal basc educaton (ncludng pre-prmary schools/early chldhood learnng spaces) 70% 16,600 HIV-postve pregnant women contnued ant-retrovral therapy 59% WATER, SANITATION AND HYGIENE NUTRITION CHILD PROTECTION HEALTH EDUCATION HIV/AIDS In countres where both humantaran and development contexts exst, reportng of chldren beng admtted for SAM treatment have not necessarly been dstngushed by the contexts n whch they were treated. As such, SAM cases wthn humantaran contexts have often been reported wthn the development-related SAM ndcator, makng t appear as f fewer chldren have been reached n humantaran contexts n Ths explans, n part, the declne n achevement aganst the target (compared to 2014). Low achevement aganst the target can be attrbuted to a few factors. In addton to the near doublng of the target from 31 mllon n 2014 to 55 mllon n 2015, n some settngs, followng assessment of epdemology, rsk and populaton mmunty (routne coverage/prevous campagns, etc.) there may be a delberate decson to scale back the age range and lmt the campagns to chldren under 5 years nstead of chldren aged 6 months to 15 years. In other cases there may have been logstcal, fnancal or even poltcal barrers to mplementng a wde age range campagn and as a result the age range was scaled down. Other factors may also have also have mpacted results. 5 Results from key humantaran responses The map below hghlghts the key results acheved by UNICEF and partners n some of the major humantaran responses n 2015 Refugee and mgrant crss n Europe 81,000 chldren reached n chld-frendly spaces offerng rest, play, psychosocal support, specalzed chld protecton servces and health referrals Ukrane: 1.6 mllon people ganed access to safe water (exceedng target) Iraq: 346,558 chldren beneftted from the provson of learnng materals (63 per cent of target) Afghanstan: 160,160 chldren aged 0-59 months affected by SAM admtted for treatment (exceedng target) Nepal: 434,690 vulnerable people, ncludng persons wth dsabltes, older persons, wdows, sngle women above 60 and Dalt chldren under 5 receved an emergency top up to ther regular socal assstance grants. Hat: 127,000 people n drought-affected areas supported wth emergency water access nterventons (exceedng target) Myanmar: 146 chldren were released from armed forces or groups and receved medcal support, formal educaton, vocatonal tranng and/or ncome generaton support. Ebola response n Serra Leone, Gunea and Lbera: 3.7 mllon households reached wth nterpersonal communcaton and sklls tranng on Ebola across the three affected countres Syran Arab Republc: 278,000 chldren accessed formal educaton (55 per cent of target) Ngera: 84,012 chldren under 5 wth SAM admtted to therapeutc feedng programmes (exceedng target) Central Afrcan Republc: 41,584 vulnerable households asssted wth WASH nterventons and non-food tems through the Rapd Response Mechansm (exceedng target) Burund: 333,936 chldren under 5 reached wth measles vaccnaton durng the Mother and Chld Health Week (exceedng target) South Sudan: 297,040 people provded wth access to approprate santaton facltes (exceedng target) Yemen: 158,409 chldren aged 6-59 months wth SAM admtted for treatment (74 per cent of target) Syran refugees n Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey and Egypt: 630,000 refugee chldren accessed formal educaton (exceedng target) In some cases, where emergences were underfunded but targets were exceeded, non-emergency funds were re-programmed for emergency response.

7 Standby Partners 201 deployments were undertaken n 2015, a sgnfcant ncrease from 2014 and returnng to levels smlar to 2012 and 2013, the hghest deployment years to date. In 2015, partners provded UNICEF wth a total of 25,689 days, or the equvalent of 70 full tme staff workng for emergency operatons.
