2 ARTNEWS 50 TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2010 President s Message We find ourselves at the beginning of the Autumn Season of our 50 th year. Many hours have been spent reviewing the past 50 years and all that the League has accomplished and all that has changed and evolved over time. Our predecessors were dedicated to building the League with the thought of also creating an art museum. We have and still enjoy the Lakeview Art Museum and the League is still alive and thriving. We have been setting and achieving goals now for 50 years. Our concepts and ideas have evolved over the years as times have changed. Through the wisdom of time we have learned that one absolute we can count on is that things change and we have to move along in life and change with them. In this newsletter are some proposed changes to our by-laws. Read them over, give them a little thought and let us know what those thoughts are. I hope that you will make a point of coming to our 50 th Anniversary Celebration and Annual Dinner on November 1 st at Barrack s Cater Inn. Celebrate your success! The application is in this issue. We have a great dinner planned with lots of current as well as historical exhibits, many of your old friends will be in attendance and we have live entertainment that is sure to please. Starters and dessert is going to be paid for by the League so come and enjoy. Send in your reservation, bring a friend and don t forget to reserve your copy of our anniversary book. We are now on our 5 th leg of the Creating with the Stars Contest. Rose Sullivan, Mary Hildebrand, and Terri Shockency are in the running for point leader. Each has participated in all five categories, and will be in the running for a grand prize. Our best of show competition is about to begin. Go to the library and cast your vote. Our October workshop still has a few openings so if you are interested hurry and get your application in soon. Applications are inside. The League will be hosting a reception and show; for IAL members only and students of Jeannie Ledbetter, in honor of Jeannie Ledbetter on October 20 th from 1 to 4 pm. at the Peoria Heights Library. Please mark the date and plan to attend. There will be framed and unframed pieces for you to purchase at a 30% discount. Jeannie was loved and highly respected by all who knew her. Our calendar for 2011 is full and ready to go. We will have a lighter schedule in 2011 but many of us are breathing a sigh of relief for that. We all need more margins of time in our lives, to read, paint, create, relax and simply enjoy our daily grind. Keep in mind that how you spend your time is far more important than how you spend your money. True delight is in the finding out rather than in the knowing. Don t I sound like a wise old fool?? Ok, I admit it. Enjoy your Autumn Season and I look forward to seeing you on November 1 st. Linda K. 3 Prairieland Watermedia Society Sept 16 th Hostess: Linda Sprouse & Loretta VanHoorebeke Topic: School Days Oct 21 st Hostess: Rose Sullivan & Phyl Pryde Topic: Autumn Scene Location for meetings: Peoria Heights Library Meeting times 1-3:00 Prairieland Watermedia Society News Prairieland Watercolor Society meets the third Thursday of the month at the Peoria Heights Library at 1:00 p.m.. Each month we not only have hostesses who supply us with some delicious treats, but also we have either a video, demo or some hands on painting. Last month Kathy Sherman shared some very interesting information from a seminar she had taken with Fealing Lin. Fealing is an artist from California who teaches negative painting and you can check out her work at I know we all found it very informative and learned something new that we wanted to go home and try. It s great when someone takes a seminar and comes back to share what they have learned. It really helps to see how things can be done and also, how we each do things in our own distinctive way. This is a great group and I am always learning something, rather it is from a demo, video or each person sharing some of their own experiences. Each month we have a topic and if you wish you may paint something to fit it or bring whatever you re working on, it doesn t even have to be a watercolor, it can be from another media if you wish. Our only mission is to share our art work and have fun. October is a video and we hope you will come and join us. Submitted by: Linda Sprouse.
