Calling 4-H Clubs, 4-H Families, Businesses, and Individuals to sponsor 4-H Awards! Junior Livestock Sale Committee Next meeting Monday May 12th at 7 pm. There are 2 spots available on the committee. Please contact a member or Melissa if interested. Why do we need awards? 4-H members are recognized for their accomplishments. Where do the awards come from? Generous donors and sponsors. Without the support of donors, recognition of youth accomplishments would not be possible! Make a contribution to the youth of Malheur County 4-H and sponsor an award! It s a charitable donation too! Contact the Extension Office to have a sponsor letter mailed to you. EASTERN OREGON LIVESTOCK SHOW If any 4-H members from Malheur County are planning on participating in the Eastern Oregon Livestock Show please contact Melissa Sherman to get registered. You must register through the extension office. Registration needs to be complete before May 15. EOLS is June 2-8, 2014 and held in Union, OR. Sign up for Malheur County 4-H text updates & reminders to (541) CHANGE OF TIME Sheep weigh-in was originally scheduled for 3-6 pm on May 16th. The Sales Committee moved to change the times to 3-5 pm due to the fact that we didn t have many sheep arrive during the last hour last year. Please plan accordingly.

4 IMPORTANT ENROLLMENT/OWNERSHIP DEADLINES AND RULES 2014 MALHEUR COUNTY FAIR January 31 st : All returning 4-H members must be enrolled in 4- H and all forms must be filed with the Extension Office no later than January 31, 2014 to be eligible to exhibit at the fair in the 4-H department. New members enrolling in Malheur County 4-H can register after January 31 st and exhibit at fair as long as livestock ownership/possession deadlines are met (see below). All applicable late fees will apply. All market animals must be owned and in possession of the member by spring weigh-in dates established each year February 22 nd : Beef weigh-in April 26 th : Swine and Goat weigh-in May 16 th : Sheep weigh-in June 27 th : Rabbit and Chicken weigh-in April 25 th : All horses must be either owned or under lease agreement with a declaration for each horse on file at the Extension Office. June 1 st : All breeding livestock, and small animals must be either owned or under lease agreement and in possession of new and returning members. June 1 st : All new members joining Malheur County 4-H intending on entering static exhibits must be enrolled and have all forms filed with the Extension Office.

7 4-Healthy Living Way to go Ashtyn Frazier! Mrs. White, the fourth grade teacher at Adrian Elementary states, Ashtyn Frazier did a great presentation in my fourth grade classroom about making a healthy afterschool smoothie! She had enthusiasm, kept the class attention, and was very organized. This really encouraged the kids to try a healthy snack instead of just grabbing junk food. Kids were asking for later in the recipe the day, because they enjoyed it sooo much!! Who will be our next 4 -H Food Hero? Try making the following recipe with your family, friends, and 4-H club Fruit Pizza from foodhero.org Ingredients 1 English Muffin (try whole grain) 2 tablespoons reduced fat or fat-free cream cheese or peanut butter 2 tablespoons sliced strawberries 2 tablespoons blueberries 2 tablespoons crushed pineapple Directions 1. Split open the English muffin and toast the halves until lightly browned. 2. Spread cream cheese or peanut butter on both halves. 3. Divide the fruit between the tow muffins and arrange on top. 4. Serve immediately. Refrigerate leftovers within 2-3 hours. Following are some great ways to get out and be seen in the community: Community Serve Day May 10, Here is the website for more information: Malheur County 4-H Relay for Life Team. Malheur County 4-H will once again have a Relay for Life team. It is June 13-14, 2014 at 6 pm at Ontario High School. 4-H members, leaders, parents, 4-H alumni, supporters, etc are invited to be on our team. The website is: Click on Sign Up and then Join a Team and then scroll to Malheur County 4-H. They are asking each team member to donate $10 rather than charging our team a fee.
