Science Olympiad at Berkeley (BSO) Article II Purpose Briefly describe the purpose and objectives of your organization. Science Olympiad at Berkeley is an organization for students who have had impactful experiences in high school Science Olympiad and are interested in enriching students with an applied science education. The purpose of Science Olympiad at Berkeley is to organize members of the Berkeley community to volunteer at secondary school science competitions and to organize an annual Science Olympiad open invitational tournament at Berkeley. We strive to play an active role in supporting Science Olympiad at the high school level and fostering a scientific spirit. Article III Membership Briefly describe the purpose and objectives of your organization. 1. Any member of the Berkeley community is eligible to become a member of Science Olympiad at Berkeley. One is considered a member of this organization in any given academic term if he/she has volunteered at at least one competition in the preceding 365 days and attended at least one organization meeting in the preceding or current term. 2. Only active members may vote or hold office. 3. Only currently registered students, faculty, and staff may be active members in a registered student organization. Only active members may vote or hold office. 4. Off campus participants will be considered non active or associate members who are eligible to help and use the name of Science Olympiad at Berkeley but are restricted to non executive decisions and cannot play a part in the leadership of the group.

2 5. This organization shall not charge any membership dues. 6. We will not haze according to California State Law. 7. We will not restrict membership based upon race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, pregnancy (including pregnancy, childbirth, and medical conditions related to pregnancy or childbirth), physical or mental disability, medical condition (cancer related or genetic characteristics), ancestry, marital status, age, sexual orientation, citizenship, or service in the uniformed services (including membership, application for membership, performance of service, application for service, or obligation for service in the uniformed services). Article IV Officers & Elections List the officers of the organization by title (e.g., President, Vice Chair, etc.) or define the leadership structure if another system is to be used (e.g., spokesperson by consensus). This organization will have a minimum of five officers: 1. President a. The President shall be the official representative of the organization to any other organization and to Berkeley. b. The President will preside over all meetings. c. The President is responsible for determining when meetings are. d. The President shall act as the Tournament Director for the annual Science Olympiad Competition hosted by the organization. 2. Internal Vice President a. The Internal Vice President shall manage internal club activities, social events and trainings. b. The Internal Vice President shall be in charge of recruitment for club members. c. The Internal Vice President shall be responsible for coordinating volunteer assignments and materials required for group volunteering events at the discretion of the President and Treasurer. d. The Internal Vice President shall be responsible for checking that group members have performed their volunteer assignments in a high quality, timely, and fair manner. 3. External Vice President a. The External Vice President has responsibility of the recruitment of Science Olympiad teams. b. The External Vice President shall be responsible for sponsorship outside of the university. c. The External Vice President will coordinate with the University of California, Berkeley to secure club accommodations (ie. rooms for meetings and tournaments)

3 4. Treasurer a. The Treasurer shall be responsible for the finances of the group. b. The Treasurer is required to sign all checks and vouchers of the group. 5. Technical Manager a. The Technical Manager shall manage all social media of the group including advertisement and outreach. b. Technical Manager shall be responsible for the upkeep of the group website and any other technical aspects of the club. What officers constitute an executive committee? The executive committee is made up of President, Internal Vice President, External President, Treasurer, and Technical Manager. Describe the process and required majority of votes by your active, voting membership by which officers will be elected or selected. 1. Any member of this organization is eligible to run for office position. 2. In order to appear on the ballot for any office, a member must first be nominated and their nomination approved by the current executive board a. A nomination is approved if a majority of the board votes in favor of the nomination. 3. Any member is elected if he or she wins a plurality of the voting members. 4. The term of office runs from one election to the subsequent election. What time of year will elections occur? Elections of officers for a given school year shall occur at the last scheduled meeting of the previous academic year, as determined by the President. How long do officers serve? Officers will serve 2 consecutive semesters, starting in the fall semester. Which officer serves as the primary contact? Which officers serve as the organization s signatories? The President shall serve as the organization s signatory. The External President shall serve as the primary contact. How will officers be removed and/or replaced? Officers may be removed by a majority vote of the other officers and general members. Article V Meetings

4 How often will the organization meet? The organization shall meet at least once a month. Who will call the meetings? The President or one of the Vice Presidents shall have the authority to call meetings in session. What is the quorum (i.e. the minimum number of members present such that the proceedings at that meeting are valid?) Quorum for elections is one half of the members of the organization. Will there be a call for special emergency meetings? If so, what is the process for determining when a special emergency meeting is necessary and how will you notify members of the meeting? A call for special emergency meetings will be executed by the President at the President s discretion. Members will be notified either in person, through a phone call, or through a text message. Article VI Constitutional Amendments Who can propose an amendment? Amendments shall be presented by any member of the organization. How are they proposed? Amendments shall be proposed by any member to the executive board which then will present it to all members. An amendment will need a 2/3 majority vote from your active membership to pass. What is the required period of time between the proposed amendment and a final vote? What is the required period of time between the proposed amendment and a final vote shall be no longer than 1 month. How will you notify active members that an amendment is going to be voted upon? Amendments will be brought to the attention of general members through our bi monthly meetings and also via . All amendments, additions or deletions to this document must be filed with the LEAD Center in 432 Eshelman Hall.

5 Article VII Dissolution How will dissolution be decided? Dissolution will be brought up by an officer during a officer meeting. It will be discussed for a minimum of 15 minutes, before a vote is taken on the issue of dissolution. What is the required majority of votes to dissolve the group? A unanimous vote of the officer board is required to dissolve the group. What will you do with unspent funds? If the organization is ASUC or GA Sponsored, all unspent ASUC funds shall return to the ASUC; all Graduate Assembly funds shall return to the Graduate Assembly. If the organization is dfnct for five (5) or more years, any privately obtained funds (including any funds left in miscellaneous accounts) shall be ASUC. In the event that the designated nonprofit organization no longer exists or has ceased to be a non profit, then the unspent funds shall be donated to the ASUC. Optional Addition: None currently.
