3 3 THE PRESIDENT S CORNER Recently, I read this quote by John F. Kennedy at the beginning of an from the Institute s President, Lane Beougher. "Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future." The Institute Board has been contemplating the bright future of CSI and will be bringing forth additional information and recommendations via and also in the upcoming May issue of The Construction Specifier magazine. How does this quote apply to our Chapter? How does it apply to our Chapter Board? How does it apply to you the member? Focusing on the future is important to the Chapter Board and we would like to get your input on several aspects of how we as a Chapter are doing and what (if anything) you would like to see changed in the future. To do this, we will be providing questionnaires via both and at this month s meeting. Please return these questionnaires with your honest answers and comments. After all, this is your Chapter and if you do not feel the need to help guide its direction then we as a Chapter will certainly miss its future while we are only thinking about the now or remembering the way it was back in the day. The Pikes Peak Chapter s immediate future is bright with new members joining our ranks each month and the upcoming Board changeover in July. As always, when a new President comes into office their infusion of new leadership and goals is refreshing to the Chapter. At the time of this writing we still need someone to fill the VP slot and someone willing to take over the Membership Chair position for the upcoming Board. Please contact me if you are interested in serving on the Board in any capacity. If you were able to attended the March meeting with Diane Miller from JE Dunn I am sure you will agree that it was a very interesting, thought provoking presentation on networking. The information on the four stages of relationship development that Diane covered could be applied as soon as you left the meeting. If you are interested in receiving the slides from Diane s presentation last month please contact me and I can forward them on to you. This month s meeting presentation will be focusing on Air and Moisture barriers in the building envelope. The presenter will be John Price with RW Specialties. Lastly, the tabletop will be provided by Bolyu Contract Carpets and presented by Kimberly Lynch. Thank you Kimberly for supporting our Herald R. Holding scholarship efforts with Pikes Peak Community College! Thank you for your time fellow members. Shane David, CSI Pikes Peak Chapter President

7 7 MEMBER SPOTLIGHT NEEDRA KRUSE PIKES PEAK COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENT I am a new member of the Pikes Peak Chapter of CSI thanks to the Herald R Holding Scholarship. I am a full me student at PPCC in the Interior Design program. I am looking forward to beginning my career when I graduate with an associates degree in December. I hope to be hired by a local architectural firm. I am originally from Independence, Missouri, a suburb of Kansas City. We moved to Colorado Springs in 2004 with my husband s Army PCS. We fell in love with the mountains and small city living and have made Colorado Springs our home. I started my school/career life later than most to focus on raising a family. I have been married for 23 years and have three grown children. Two live here in Colorado Springs and the youngest in Okinawa as a Navy Corpsman. One of the benefits of wai ng so long to start school and choose a career is I ve had a lot of me to realize my talents, strengths, and passions. My father was an art teacher and I have always been gi ed in that area. Interior design seems to be a perfect fit. I have discovered that my refinement in art has translated very well to this field. I am very proficient at hand and computer aided dra ing, as well as hand rendering. I realize how valuable the speed of computer rendering is to our field so I am also taking Revit this semester. Commercial design is currently direc on I am headed. Although my ar s c ability might be put to use in the residen al arena, I enjoy space planning and designing efficient layouts that would be be er u lized in a commercial se ng. I am grateful to be a member of CSI. I look forward to working alongside builders, designers, engineers and architects alike. I am excited to con nue my learning experience and build rela onships with the CSI community.
