1 OTHER SCHEDULED ITEM BELVEDERE CITY COUNCIL MAY 8, 207 Mayor and City Council Alison Foulis, City Clerk Make appointments to various volunteer committees and commissions Recommended Motion/Item Description. That the Council interview Anne-Marie Walker and Julianne Malnick Schaefer for the open position on the Parks and Open Space Committee and William J. Smith for the open position on the Belvedere-Tiburon Library Agency Board as the first item on the agenda. 2. That the Council make appointments to the various committees and boards. Suggested motions: MOTION: To reappoint the following incumbents to the Historic Preservation Committee: Diana Bradley, Richard Newman, Mel Owen and Bruce Sams. MOTION: To reappoint Alison Seaman and Barbara Winter and to appoint (Anne Marie Walker or Julianne Malnick Schaefer) to the Parks and Open Space Committee. MOTION: To appoint William J. Smith to the Belvedere-Tiburon Library Agency Board of Trustees. Background The following committees have members whose terms expire in 207. A matrix detailing the committee vacancies and applications is included as Attachment. Historic Preservation Committee Four members of the Historic Preservation Committee have expiring terms in 207: Diana Bradley, Richard Newman, Mel Owen, and Bruce Sams. All four incumbents have requested to be reappointed to the committee (see Attachment 2). No other applications have been received for the open positions on this committee. There are no term limits for this committee. Parks and Open Space Committee Three committee members, Annette Ryan, Alison Seaman, and Barbara Winter, have terms expiring on the Parks and Open Space Committee. Alison Seaman and Barbara Winter, who have both served on the committee since 20, have asked to be reappointed to their positions (see Attachment 3). Annette Ryan is not seeking reappointment as she has served on the AGENDA ITEM NO. : & 4

To date, two additional applications have been received from Anne-Marie Walker and Julianne Malnick Schaefer. Ms. Walker previously served on the Committee from Both applicants will be present at the beginning of the meeting for a brief interview with the Council. Belvedere-Tiburon Library Agency Board of Directors The term of Belvedere resident representative Bonnie Spiesberger ends in 207. The Library Agency Board limits representatives to serving two terms on the board and Ms. Spiesberger has reached the end of her second term. One application for the open position has been received from William J. Smith (see Attachment 4). Mr. Smith will be present at the beginning of the meeting for a brief interview with Council. Recruitment Efforts and Interviews Recruitment advertisements for the various committee term expirations were run in The Ark throughout April. Information was also posted on the City s website and sent out in the City s monthly e-newsletter. Incumbents eligible to serve another term were contacted in writing regarding whether they would like to be reappointed. All correspondence received regarding the open positions are included in the attachments. Per established policy, the Council does not require incumbents to interview for their position again. There is one new applicant each for the open positions on the Parks and Open Space Committee and Belvedere-Tiburon Library Agency Board of Trustees, and both will be present at the beginning of the meeting for a brief interview. Recommendation. That the Council interview Anne-Marie Walker and Julianne Malnick Schaefer for the open position on the Parks and Open Space Committee and William J. Smith for the open position on the Belvedere-Tiburon Library Agency Board as the first item on the agenda. 2. That the Council make appointments to the various committees and boards.
