Addressing a joint sitting of both houses at the beginning of the Budget session, the President said, the government is making all out efforts for economic, social and educational empowerment of the minorities and is committed to their empowerment without appeasement. 6 President The President said, Centre is committed to protecting the rights of Muslim women and expressed hope that the Triple Talaq Bill will be passed by Parliament soon. He asserted that the present regime is working for the welfare of the backward and weaker communities. 7 President The President said, farmers are being provided affordable and simple crop insurance services under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and during 2017, under Rabi and Kharif crops, 5.71 crore farmers were provided protective coverage. Mr. Kovind said, as compared to 2014 when only 56 per cent of the villages had road connectivity, now more than 82 per cent villages mostly in far flung and inaccessible areas have been connected by roads. On simultaneous this elections of Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies, Mr Kovind said, a sustained debate is required on the subject of simultaneous elections and all political parties need to arrive at a consensus on this issue.

9 Prime Minister Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to political parties to support the passage of Triple Talaq Bill. Stating that the bill will empower Muslim women, he said, there should be no politics on it. Mr Modi was talking to media outside Parliament before the beginning of the budget session today. 10 Prime Minister The Prime Minister said, the budget session is important and everyone should participate in the debates and discussions. He said, the budget will fulfil the aspirations of common people and give a new energy to country s development. He said, world is optimistic about India s economic growth and credit rating agencies are giving positive response to India s growth.

11 Finance Ministry Economic Survey has predicted the growth rate of 7 to 7.5 per cent in the Gross Domestic Product in The Survey was tabled by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in Parliament today. It says that a series of major reforms undertaken over the past year will allow real GDP growth to reach 6.75 percent this fiscal and will rise to 7.0 to 7.5 per cent in It said, the employment, education and agriculture will be the focus areas in the mid-term.

12 Finance Ministry Agriculture is expected to grow at the rate of 2.1 per cent, industry at 4.4 per cent, and services sector at 8.3 per cent in The survey also adds that after remaining in negative territory for a couple of years, growth of exports rebounded into positive one during and is expected to grow faster in the current fiscal. It said, with world growth likely to witness moderate improvement in 2018, expectation of greater stability in GST, likely recovery in investment levels, and ongoing structural reforms, among others, should be supporting higher growth.

13 Finance Ministry It said, post introduction of GST regime, there has been a 50 per cent increase in the number of indirect taxpayers. It said, India must continue improving the climate for rapid economic growth on the strength of the only two truly sustainable engines-private investment and exports. "The Survey is optimistic in its tone because of government s commitment to carry forward structural reforms like GST, deregulation measures, bank re-capitalization and resolution. It said government has undertaken a number of reforms to ensure that India remains an attractive investment destination. These reforms include National Intellectual Property Rights policy, GST implementation, and reforms for ease of doing business. The Survey also expressed concern over air pollution in Delhi with the onset of winter due to various factors and suggested coordination between agencies and Central and State Governments to address each source problem systematically. The pink cover of this year's Economic Survey was chosen as a symbol of support for ending violence against women. It recommended that India must confront the societal meta-preference for a son, and observed that the adverse sex ratio of females to males has led to 63 million 'missing' women.

14 Chief Economic Advisor Arvind Subramanian today said implementing GST and responding quickly to transitional challenges are among the major achievements of the government in the past year. Giving highlights of the Economic Survey, Mr Subramanian in a series of tweets said, there has been an increase in new tax filers of about 18 lakh and some boost to individual income tax collections post-demonetization and GST. The Chief Economic Adviser listed providing support to agriculture, stabilizing GST, privatizing Air-India among the policy agenda for the coming year. Mr Subramanian said, there are robust and broad-based signs of revival in economic activity.

15 Economic Advisory Council The Chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister Dr. Bibek Debroy has said, the Economic Survey is a reflection of Government s commitment to growth and development. Highlighting the optimistic outlook of the economy reflected by the Economic Survey, he said, the emphasis on women s empowerment is a welcome step. Dr. Debroy endorsed the pick-up in growth highlighted in the Survey and was of the view that in the real GDP growth rate is likely to be closer to 7.5 per cent rather than 7 per cent.

16 NITI Aayog NITI Aayog Vice Chairman, Rajiv Kumar has said, the country's GDP growth is expected to be around 8 to 8.5 per cent in and what has been predicted by the Economic Survey is underestimate. Talking to media in New Delhi, Mr Kumar said, the investment cycle has picked up and will increase further.

17 FICCI FICCI President Rashesh Shah has said that India has seen major structural reforms in such as GST, Insolvency Code and bank recapitalization. He said, it will boost the economy in the coming years. On Economic Survey, Mr Shah said, the economy will start reaping benefits of these reforms in the next fiscal year and he looks forward to continuity in the reforms process displayed by the government.
