2 22 LEGISLATIVE JOURNAL-HOUSE JANUARY 26, ANNOUNCEMENT BY SPEAKER R. BUDD DWYER FUNERAL COMMITTEE APPOINTED The SPEAKER. Because this is the day in which the House must organize its committees, the Chair could not be at the funeral of a good friend of the Chair, R. Budd Dwyer. The Chair has nominated and sent, to represent all of us, the following people: the gentleman from Erie, Mr. Dombrowski, as the chairman of the delegation from the House; the gentleman from Erie, Mr. Cappabianca; the gentleman from Erie, Mr. Bowser; the gentleman from Erie, Mr. Boyes; the gentleman from Mercer, Mr. Fargo; the gentleman from Mercer, Mr. Robbins; the gentleman from Mercer, Mr. Gruitza; the gentleman from Crawford, Mr. Merry; and the gentleman from McKean, Mr. Jadlowiec. PRAYER The SPEAKER. The Chair is going to do something that the Chair has never done since being Speaker in 1977, 1983, 1985, and now in The Chair is going to stand for a few seconds silently to pray for the soul of a friend of his, R. Budd Dwyer, who could not withstand the anguish and the pain of living, the anguish and the pain that each living being, to some degree, must sustain. Those who would join with the Chair are invited to stand. (Members and all visitors stood.) The SPEAKER. Father God, Father of all of us, Father of all the children of the Earth, Father of all the religious sects and groups on this planet, we come here unbidden and unprepared for the injuries and the pain and the anguish and the hurt of living. Most of us succeed in gathering enough strength to live through the anguish, the hurt, and the pain, and many of us find joy in many places with many friends. But for some the pain is too intense, the anguish too long to endure, the hurt unremitting, and so it was with Budd Dwyer. I pray now, Father God, that having left this life, the soul of Budd Dwyer is now, finally, at peace. Amen. LEAVES OF ABSENCE The SPEAKER.
