Jonathan Chung, Director of Government Affairs (GCA), was asked to give updates on the latest advocacy efforts regarding the City and State budgets and meetings with state legislators. He reported that the governor and legislators are currently in negotiations to adopt a budget after the Assembly and Senate passed their One House Resolutions. The Senate budget increased operational aid by $8 million, which includes $4 million in new funding plus the $4 million restoration. The Senate proposed an additional $15 million to the capital budget, which includes $10 million in new funding on top of the $5 million restoration of the governor s proposed cut. The restorations were due in part to the concerted effort of the all the NYS library systems rallying on March 1 in Albany, NY for Library Day, where Queens played a significant role with the largest number of advocates.
