1 THE SIXTY NINTH STUDENT SENATE The Journal: January 25, 2017 The meeting of the 69 th Student Senate was called to order at 7:31 p.m. by Student Senate President Wilkerson Joseph. Senator Guerrier led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. MEMBERS PRESENT (First Roll Call): Senators Abbott, Acevedo, Barker, Barrios, Billisi, Bousbar, Brown, Dawkins, Franson, Gaston, Guerrier, Hancock, Hendricks, Hill, Holzmann, Hughes, Ishaque, King, Mix, Myles, Ney, O Hara, Pimentel, Reiter, Roman, Sidelnik, Singhal, Steinberg, Spear, Theodore, Thomas, Whyte. Student Comments: Special Introductions and Announcements: Rebekah Dorn, Assistant Director User Experience, announced to the Senate that FSU has released a new mobile app that you can used to check your financial aid, register for classes and pay fees. She said that there will be a focus group meeting on Tuesday, January 31, at 4 p.m., in room 311 A Union. She said that you will be able to search for courses in February at my.fsu.mobile. Messages from the Executive Branch: Wesley Sapp, Chief of Staff, apologized for not being able to make it to the State of the Student Body Address. He told the Senate that Student Body President Molina will meet with FSU President Thrasher at the end of this week and if you have any questions please reach out to them. He asked the Senate to please support the candidate for Deputy Chief of Staff. Messages from Agency and Bureau Directors, SGA Organizations Officers and Employees: Samantha Moncerate, AASU Director, announced that agencies held their event entitled Untold Story during MLK week and she thanked everyone who came out to support them. She told the Senate that their first GBM had about 80 students in attendance. John McQuillan, IRHC Director, announced that they are sponsoring an event with SLC to show the movie ET on Monday, January 30 at 8 p.m. He also announced that Lord of Wings will take place on Monday, February 20 in the Club DownUnder at 8 p.m. Nicole McMillan, SCURC member, announced the following: SCURC is having a general interest meeting on Thursday, January 26, at 7 p.m. in HSF Great Hall; they will table at the CCI Fair on Tuesday, January 31 form 12-2 p.m.; they are reaching out to creative students on campus; they are tabling at the FSU Library Spring Resource Fair on Tuesday, January 31; and they thanked the Senate for their support in sending students to the National Collegiate Research Conference. 2 Facebook. Daniel Pertwee, OSS Director, announced that they are having an event on Tuesday, February 7, in Mendenhall A from 5:30-7 p.m. He urged everyone to get Green Dot certified. Kadeem Walker, OSL Assistant Director, announced that they are co-sponsoring an event, Adventures in Service, on February 1 at the Dunlap Center. Messages from the Executive Cabinet: William Boose urged the Senate to please support Resolution 13 and please get involved with Green Dot. Messages from the Class Councils: None. Report of the SGA Accounting Office: As of January 18, 2017, Senate Projects has $26, RTAC has $34, and PAC has $35, (these are the balances from last week s Senate meeting. Did not receive balances for this meeting). PASSED WITHOUT OBJECTION AS AMENDED. Bills First Reading: Bill 16 Sponsored by Senator Ney. An allocation of $ from Senate Projects to Center for Health Advocacy and Wellness. Purpose: to purchase hygiene products to the Food Pantry. REFERRED TO BUDGET. Bill 17 Sponsored by Senators Bousbar, Dawkins, Franson and Walser. A revision to the Student Body Statutes Chapter Purpose: to amend these statutes to change the meeting time of the Senate meeting in the Spring semester. REFERRED TO JUDICIARY. Bill 18 Sponsored by Senators Bousbar, Dawkins, Franson and Walser. A revision to the Student Body Statutes Chapter Purpose: to amend statutes to have Senators sit on RTAC and PAC meetings when they do not have quorum. REFERRED TO JUDICIARY. Bill 19 - Sponsored by Senators Bousbar, Dawkins, Franson and Walser. A revision to the Student Body Statutes Chapter Purpose: to allow RSOs to petition RTAC and PAC on twice in the same fiscal calendar year. REFERRED TO JUDICIARY. Bill 20 Sponsored by Senator Barrios. A transfer of $4,700 from Executive Projects to Executive Food. Purpose: to pay for food for the SGA Inauguration in Spring REFERRED TO BUDGET. Bills Second Reading: Bill 12 Sponsored by Senator Ney. A revision of $9,000 within the Black Student Union from Contractual Services to Travel. Purpose: to pay for 56 students to travel for the BSU service trip to Memphis, Tennessee. Closing Announcements: Senator Ney thanked the two new Senators sworn in for applying and becoming a part of the Senate. Senator Walser gave a shout out to Senator King for her work on the Green Dot resolution. Senator Billisi gave a shout out to the veterans. Senator Theodore gave a shout out to the Finance Committee for staying so late last night. She announced that Black History Month starts next Wednesday and the opening ceremonies will take place on February. She told the Senate to let her know if you want to be in BSU Black Olympics. Senator Thomas told the Senate they did a good job tonight. Senator King announced that Green Dot training will be announced for all student leaders soon. Senator Reiter asked everyone to come out to Internal Affairs meetings. Senator Sidelnik announced that they will meet on Tuesday, January 31 at 4 p.m., in room 311. He said they will discuss technology for the new FSU apps. Senator Baxter thanked the Senate for the opportunity to be a part of something great. Senator Zeigler also thanked the Senate for the opportunity and he is excited and he is a quick learner.

5 Senator Myles announced that Internal Affairs is meeting in the Micco Room a 7 p.m., to go over the statues for the Bureau process. Chase Breeden told the Senate to practice what you preach about Green Dot. He told the Senate that a former student, JR Harding, has a mission to make FSU a choice institution for disabled students and he is looking for students to sit on a committee to see this idea come into fruition. He said he will attend the BSU ground breaking ceremony at 3 p.m. Friday, January 27, Danielle Morgan Acosta also announced the BSU ground breaking ceremony and said the building will be located across from Regan Hall. She told the Senate they are trying to get the student s input on the new Union and they are looking to get a building that will last another 50 years. She announced there will be a Health Insurance meeting on Friday and there will be a lot of tough decisions taking place at Wellness Center concerning health insurance. She also announced that Black History Month and the AASU Lunar event are all scheduled for February. Senator Hughes urged the Senate to go to the BSU ground breaking ceremony. Senate President Joseph did a recap of the Senate announcements which include the following: eight (8) Senators are needed on Tuesday, January 31 to test new FSU apps; CCI Fair on January 31; Lord of Wings on January 20; BSU Ground Breaking on Friday, January 27; and they are looking for better space for NPHC Summer Oasis. He also asked the Senate to please respond if someone in-groups you or send a question and to please make sure we are doing our jobs and to govern ourselves accordingly.
