1 THE SIXTY-SIXTH STUDENT SENATE The Journal: July 9, 2014 The meeting of the 66 th Student Senate was called to order at 7:39 p.m. by Student Senate President Lindsay Wood. Senator Catalano led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. MEMBERS TARDY/LATE: (First Roll Call): Senator Randall (8:05). Corrections: None. Student Comments: Ryan Taylor told the Senate that he is not in favor of Resolution 44. He said Student Body President Cavallaro helped to start the Veteran Student Union and was there for him when his father passed. Joe Vance, President of Phi Kappa Alpha told the Senate Student Body President Cavallaro is a good guy and would do whatever he could for anyone and Senate does not need to waste their time trying to impeach him. Luke Regan, President IFC, told the Senate that he has a professional and personal relationship with Student Body President Cavallaro. He said Cavallaro truly upholds the Garnet and Gold. Camile Butshedka told the Senate that she worked with Student Body President Cavallaro and he has been a great mentor and he is always there to help. Pierre Jolicoeur told the Senate that Student Body President Cavallaro is a great person and has always been there for him. He urged the Senate to look into this case carefully. Special Introductions and Announcements: None. Messages from the Executive Branch: Gerald Johnson, Student Body Vice President, told the Senate that Student Body President Cavallaro is a great president and please support him. He announced that they are having a voter registration drive on September 20, He also announced that the agencies are kicking off their summer weeks starting this week. Andrew Wilson, Chief of Staff, said that he is disappointed in Resolution 44 and Student Body President Cavallaro does not deserve impeachment and this is a very, very serious issue.

2 Messages from Agency and Bureau Directors, SGA Organizations Officers and Employees: Rodney Moore, BSU President, told the Senate that he is not in support of Resolution 44. Christian Guadamuz, HLSU Director, told the Senate that he is not in support of Resolution 44. He thanked all Senators who have been attending their events. Dan Dispenziere, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, told the Senate that Student Body President Cavallaro should not be impeached. He announced that he still has openings on his board and that he has t-shirts if you would like one. Kathryn Quintin, Assistant Director of AASU, told the Senate that Student Body President Cavallaro has been a great president and the severity of what might happened is not good. Stanley Marshall for his activism passion and leadership while president of Florida State University. PASSED BY UNANIMOUS CONSENT. Resolution 44 - Sponsored by Senator D. Patel. Subject: Impeaching Student Body President Stefano Cavallaro for malfeasance. WITHDRAWN BY SPONSOR. Unfinished Business: None. New Business: Veto of Bill 55. The Senate voted to amend the bill. Bill 55 was amended and sent back to the Student Body President. Unfinished Business: None. New Business: None. Closing Announcements: Senator Emanuello introduced himself to the Senate and told the Senate that he is one of the Senators who brought charges against Student Body President Cavallaro. He said it was not his intention to do this while he is not here, because Cavallaro has the right and needs the opportunity to defend his self. He said the question is did he break the Ethics Code and if he did, he needs to be impeached and that is the question that has to be answered. Emanuello told the Senate that it is the Supreme Court that can actually remove him from office. He urged the Senate to read the charges very carefully and he said there are video links that are pertinent. Senator Acosta announced that the ad hoc committee on Libraries met Tuesday and they are working on ways to give back to the libraries. He encouraged everyone to come to the meetings because student input is needed. Senator Barth told the Senate that she is considering changing the Judiciary committee meeting to Friday, July 11, 2014 at 6 p.m. in the Legislative Conference Room. Vicki Dobiyanski, introduced herself to the new Senators. She told the Senate that we are in the new fiscal year and any bills that give RSOs money will come from Senate Projects now and those monies will be returned to Senate Projects in the fall. She urged the Senate to be fiscally responsible and to study hard and make good grades. Doug Roberts, Senate Parliamentarian, encouraged the Senate to read the statutes regarding impeachment and ask him any questions you may have. He told the Senate that he is an officer and he does not have an opinion. Senate President Wood told the Senate to read Chapter 405 and also to read the charges that were brought and look at the video. She announced that the Senate will not meet on July 19.
