3 THE FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY STUDEi T GOVERN~fENT ASSOCIATION STUDE0:T SE~ATE Senate Resolution _l_i Sponsored by: Dean, Gurau, Harmon, Harris, Leckie, Purganan, Walsh WHEREAS: Climate change is a national crisis and, WHEREAS: the purpose of the Student Senate at Florida State University is to represent the interests of the student body and, WHEREAS: the mitigation of climate change is in the best interests of the student body and, WHEREAS: the Federal Government released its fourth National Climate Assessment in November of 2018 and, WHEREAS: The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Department of Agriculture, Department of Commerce, Department of Defense, Department of Energy, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of the Interior, Department of State, Department of Transportation, Environmental Protection Agency, National Aeronautics Space Administration, National Science Foundation, Smithsonian Institution, and United States Agency for International Development have all endorsed the report and, WHEREAS: The report found that the "annual losses in some economic sectors are projected to reach hundreds of billions of dollars by the end of the century - more than the current gross domestic product (GDP) of many U.S. states," therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SEVENTY FIRST STUDENT SENATE AT THE FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY THAT: The Florida State University recognizes the findings of the assessment and will take action to ensure the reduction of carbon emissions BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT: A copy of this document be sent to the following: John Thrasher, President of Florida State University Ron Desantis, Governor of the State of Florida
