1 THE ALERT SAN BERNARDINO REPUBLICAN WOMEN FEDERATED MARCH, 2018 LEGISLATION MARCH MEETING ELECTING REPUBLICANS IN A BLUE STATE Since 2010, Republicans have not had a candidate for the top state offices on the General Election Ballot. What is needed to change that phenomenon and how can Republican Women participate in that change? At the March meeting, Republican Strategist, Cameron Wessel, will present strategies to get Republicans elected to office. A native and lifelong resident of San Bernardino County, Cameron has nearly a decade of experience in political strategy and operations in the Inland Empire. Recently, Cameron was recognized for his role on the Yes on Measure F campaign in Apple Valley. Despite being outspent 24-1, the campaign implemented an aggressive grassroots and paid media strategy that CAPITOL UPDATE AB 403 (Melendez-R): Legislative Whistleblower Protection Act had been hanging around Sacramento since The California Senate had stonewalled whistleblower protection for legislative employees for more than four years. However, with the 2017 sexual harassment allegations in the capitol, the bill cleared the senate Earlier versions of the Melendez bill had quietly died in the Senate Appropriations Committee. AB 1745 (Ting-D) wants to ban all internal -combustion vehicles by Consider what modes of transportation will be available solar-powered bicycles? AB 1756 (Brough-R) and AB 1886 (Fong-R) will repeal SB 1 and fully fund transportation infrastructure repairs and new roads without raising taxes. SB 827 (Weiner-D) will allow for high-rise, high-density transportation villages to be built, ignores building ordinances. SB 834 (Jackson-D) and AB 1775 (Mullin-D) will ban new
2 ultimately led to a 17-point victory. Cameron s proven record of success is the result of his expertise in marketing and communications combined with a datadriven, region specific strategy for each campaign. Prior to owning his political consulting and marketing firm, GC Strategies, Cameron served as the Deputy District Director for Congressman Paul Cook. He is a graduate of the Republican National Committee s Campaign Management College and has consulted on over 26 campaigns ranging from Water Board to U.S. Congress. Cameron earned a Bachelor of Science in Business with an emphasis in Marketing from the University of Redlands. He lives in Rancho Cucamonga, where his office is also located, and currently serves as the Chair of the Clubs and Coalitions Committee for the San Bernardino County Republican Party. Cameron is also an active member of the Lincoln Club and Chamber of Commerce. Ted Sanchez, a Republican running for San Bernardino City Council has also been invited to present his platform his acceptance is pending. Scroll down for meeting information. construction on pipelines, piers and wharfs in any state coastal water and will stonewall any oil drilling. Primary Ballot Measures: CFRW s official position on ACA 1 (Mayes-R) and ACA 5 (Frazier-D) will be announced later. At that time both bills will be described in detail. SB 5 (DeLeon-D) will issue a $4 billion general obligation bond. Currently, the state has $73.33 in general obligation bond indebtedness. ACA 17 (Mullin-D) would add additional days after the Secretary of State certifies the election results. IMPORTANT Club dues for 2018 need to be paid at March meeting. Dues are $25 for regular membership and $10 for associated membership. PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Long Beach was the site of the February California Federation of Republican Women Board of Directors Meeting and Conference. It is always encouraging to meet with old friends and to hear how other clubs are handling the challenges of club growth and retention. Registration Ladies at the CFRW BOD Meeting and Conference, Long Beach 2018 James O Keefe, of The Veritas Project, presented his findings on how the media s agenda to ignore and hide truth has affected all Americans. His book, American Pravda, details how American journalism has infiltrate election process and worked to placate the powerful and spread disinformation to the public.
3 The luncheon speaker, Anna Khait, came to the US from Russia as a child. She has appeared on Survivor and other TV shows. She is a born-again Christian and shared her story on living as an atheist but finding Christ as a teen. Join us at the next CFRW conferences and meetings. You will leave refreshed and better informed! March Meeting Friday the 23 th, :30-1:00 Elks Lodge # Elks Drive San Bernardino, CA Call Frieda Glick: or reserve online at SanBernardinoRWF.org The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money. -Alexis de Tocqueville This week an popped up from the California Women Lead. Their tag line is Engage Empower Elect. Nowhere does it say what political affiliation drives the organization. However, it is presented by Women Lawyers of Sacramento and McGeorge School of Law. The guest speaker is Diane Feinstein, so we know the political leanings of the group. What is to be learned from this ? First, their appeals to ALL women to join the conference to recognize and celebrate women appointees from the State of California. Second, they provide an opportunity to join other women leaders to network, learn, encourage, and inspire each other. Third, we are RWF! We should be taking the lead on celebrating the intelligence and leadership of women. At this month s meeting, the table discussion will be about how our club can reach out to all women in our community. There are conservative women who are reticent to admit they have similar values to the Republican Party. Get your thoughts and ideas together and let s share them with our table mates. I ll see you there. Karen
