3 Don Weigel- Field (Atlanta, GA) Don Weigel began organizing in college, running a non-partisan voter registration drive and founding the College Democrats. After college, he helped coordinate a first-ever full-ticket campaign for Mayor and city council in upstate New York. In 2006 Don served as deputy executive director and then in 2007 and 2008 as the executive director for the Colorado House Majority Project in Colorado helping expand their majority in the state house by four seats and organizing an incumbency protection program that re-elected every house Democrat. He now works for the Georgia House Democratic Caucus in Atlanta. Don has served as a press secretary, communications director, field director, general consultant and campaign manager in races for municipal, state, and federal elections in New York, Colorado, Alabama and Georgia. Selene Hofer-Shall- Finance (Burlington, VT) Selene Hofer-Shall is the managing partner of Theseus Advisors, LLC. After years working as a crisis counselor for adolescents with behavioral and psychiatric disorders, Selene got involved in local politics in Burlington, VT, volunteering on a number of local city council and state house races. She joined the Operations Team of Vermont Governor Howard Dean s Presidential campaign in 2003, helping to compile the largest FEC reports in Presidential Campaign History. Selene was one of the founding staffers of Democracy for America, working as Operations Director and assistant to the Finance Director. Since leaving DFA, Selene has worked on numerous successful campaigns from city council to United States Congress. As the Finance Director for Vermont s lone Congressman, Peter Welch in his successful 2006 race for Congress, she broke all previous fundraising records for the district. Following the 2006 election, she worked in San Antonio, TX as the Finance Director for Ciro Rodriguez in the TX-23 run-off election, raising over $600,000 in less than three weeks to successfully oust a 7-term Republican incumbent. Selene returned to work for Congressman Welch as the Political and Finance Director on his first re-election campaign, as part of a team that successfully warded off all Republican opposition and secured not only the Democratic but also the Republican nomination. Selene has a passion for grassroots fundraising and organizing, and believes that fear of fundraising should never prevent a qualified candidate from running for office. Selene specializes in political outreach, event planning, operations systems and financial compliance. - Field/ Volunteer Management (Burlington, VT) Dan is a National Field Organizer for the Northeast region at Democracy for America. Dan started his political action work during his college years as the President of the SUNY Plattsburgh College Democrats / Progressives. Dan continued on after graduating and went to work on the Eric Massa for Congress 2008 campaign in New York's 29th Congressional District. He worked point for volunteer and field operations in 4 counties in the southern tier of NY-29 in Dan helped to shore up record levels of democratic turnout in the heavily conservative southern tier which helped bring Eric Massa to victory in After his work on the congressional race Dan went to work with the Rochester & Genesee Valley Area Labor Federation AFL-CIO. Dan worked to organize AFL-CIO affiliate membership in the 11 country region they operated in. Soon thereafter Dan made the trip from Rochester, NY to Bangor, ME to work for Change that Works (SEIU). For several months Dan organized activists in north central Maine to put pressure on Maine Senators and Congressmen/ women to support health care reform. Dan is a graduate of Plattsburgh State University in northern New York. He lives in Burlington, VT with his fiancé Amy.
4 - Communications/ Online Organizing (Washington, DC) has rapidly emerged as an internationally respected pioneer in social media and Internet strategies with over a decade of experience and winning results. Her online outreach and marketing plans were acknowledged as key to the passage of Proposal 2, the 2008 stem cell ballot proposal in the state of Michigan. Along the way, she served as the first Internet Outreach Director for the MI Democratic Party, online campaign coordinator for Progress Michigan, and Julielyn's track record for success with new media and her experience as a blogger made her the first blogger credentialed in the Michigan State Capital. Additionally, Julielyn has worked with various labor organizations across the country, LGBT groups and issues, and helped lead on and offline communications targeted at increasing Latino voter turnout in Arizona in the 2010 cycle. Currently, Julielyn is serving as New Director for 'We Are The People, Michigan' a grassroots coalition designed to combat the state budget cuts that are harming the working and middle class of the state. A true 'digital native', she has over a decade of direct, hands-on, 'in the trenches' experience with the power of social media, Internet strategies, and communications with proven success helping her clients. Julielyn has presented in front of thousands across the U.S. and the United Kingdom, and she is a highlysought after speaker and presenter. Julielyn served as a senior fellow in 2010 with the New Organizing Institute. Julielyn is the founding member and partner of i3 Strategies and is based in Washington, DC.
