2 10/11/18 Page 1 of General Election Ballot Guide Why do Republican candidates appear first on the ballot in partisan contests? In partisan contests, Republican candidates appear before Democratic candidates. Florida law provides that the names of candidates of the party that received the highest number of votes for Governor in the last gubernatorial election (2014) are placed first on the ballot. The names of the candidates of the party that received the second highest number of votes (in 2014) are placed second on the ballot or in this election, Democratic candidates. What about Minor Party and No Party Affiliation Candidates? Democratic candidates are followed by Minor Party candidates and then No Party Affiliation (NPA) candidates. Florida law provides that Minor Party and NPA candidates will be listed on the ballot, in their contest, in the order they qualified for office instead of alphabetical order. (Although sometimes, Minor Party or NPA candidates coincidentally qualify in alphabetical order but that does not happen very often.) Are there Write-in candidates on the ballot? Yes. There are (5) partisan contests with the potential for write-in candidates. Florida law provides that the names of write-in candidates who have officially qualified for office may NOT appear on the ballot. In order to vote for a write-in candidate, the voter must fill in the oval and write the name of the qualified write-in candidate in the space provided for that purpose. Note: There are no designated write-in candidates in this election for local office in Lee County. Are there nonpartisan contests on the ballot? Yes. Candidates for nonpartisan contests are prohibited from campaigning or qualifying for election or retention in office based on party affiliation. In nonpartisan contests, the names of candidates for contests such as judicial retention, school board member, city council, multi-county special district, and local special districts and are listed in alphabetical order. Can I vote for more than one candidate in a contest? All candidate contests except for Lee Memorial Health System are "Vote for 1". Lee Memorial Health System contests are "Vote for up to 2". In contests where the voter may vote for more than (1) candidate, and the voter chooses to vote for only (1) candidate in the contest, the vote will count.

Constitutional Amendments and Revisions appear on the ballot after the candidate contests and are listed in the numerical order designated by the State. Are there any local referendums on the ballot? Yes. There are (3). Countywide referendums appear on the ballot after constitutional amendments and revisions. District specific or municipal referendums appear after countywide referendums. If there is a district specific or municipal referendum on the ballot, only voters residing in the specific municipality or district will be able to vote on the referendum. What kind of vote do you cast for a Constitutional Amendments and Revisions or local referendums? When casting a vote for a constitutional amendment, revision, or local referendum, a voter will cast a "Yes or No" vote. If casting a vote for a bond referendum, the voter will cast a vote as follows: "Yes - For Bonds or No - Against Bonds". Does a voter have to vote on every contest that appears on their ballot? No. The voter may vote all, some, or none of the contests on their specific ballot. How many pages is the General Election ballot? The November 6, 2018, General Election ballot is (2) pages. The majority of voters will not have any contests on the back of Page 2 of their ballot. Depending on where a voter lives in Lee County, and based on the number of contests applicable to their specific area, some voters will have one or more contests on the back of Page 2 of their ballot. What is the proper way to mark my ballot? Fill in the oval next to the candidate s name or next to your answer to a question. Use a blue or black pen. Do not cross out or your vote may not count. If you are voting for a qualified write-in candidate, fill in the oval and print the qualified write-in candidate s name clearly on the blank line provided for that purpose. If you make a mistake, ask for a new ballot. If voting by mail, call us at, (239) LEE-VOTE ( ) and ask for the Vote-by-Mail Department. If voting in person at an Early Voting site or your polling location on Election Day, please see a site or location official for assistance.

The Florida Democratic Party is entitled to select a replacement candidate as permitted by law. Because it is too late to change the General Election ballot, the ballot will not reflect the replacement candidate s name. On October 1, 2018, the Florida Democratic Party selected Allen Ellison as their designee to fill the vacancy in nomination. Voters in Congressional District 17 only, please be advised that: State Offices A vote cast for Greg Steube will count for Greg Steube. A vote cast for April Freeman will count for Allen Ellison. However, the district also has a referendum on the same ballot that will only apply to district voters in Lee County.
