2 April Shelved License: 12 licenses shelved----3 returned to active Miscellaneous: The meeting was called to order by Don Haskin and seconded by Chris Worch. The discussions held by the board concerned the following items: 1) The April minutes were approved as written. Motion by Jim Bacot and seconded by Craig Spence. The vote was 5-0 to approve the minutes. 2) The following is a list of dates for the meetings in 2014: January 7 th Board Meeting January 23 rd Master/Low Voltage/Restricted Exam February 4 th Board Meeting March 4 th Board Meeting April 1 st Board Meeting May 6 th Board Meeting June 3 rd Board Meeting July 1 st Board Meeting July 24 th Master/Low Voltage/Restricted Exam August 5 th Board Meeting September 2 nd -----Board Meeting October 7 th Board Meeting November 4 th Board Meeting December 2 nd Board Meeting 3) Received several updated liability certificates. Have updated files roster spreadsheet. Sent out mass notification by to make sure the electricians name and license number are on the certificate. This resulted in 106 new certificates being ed/mailed/faxed to the board. 4) The electrical board will send out a new roster every Sunday. Any license request sent in during the week will not be processed and become active to the following Monday. Any licenses that become shelved for insurance reasons will be sent out by on an individual basis. 5) The changes to the yellow book have been made. The board will submit the book with all changes for printing. The board is currently waiting for a budget amendment before ordering the new books to lack of funds. 6) I have started sending s out to license holders 30 days before their certificate of liability insurance expires. There is NO reason now that we do not receive the certificate on time. At this time we are still receiving s from companies upset that their COL was sent but the board did not receive it on time. I have responded that the COL should be sent by . This way the COL is sent directly to the board. 7) Don Haskin Class is now complete. The class seemed to be a success. I have heard by and word of mouth that a majority of the students enjoyed the class and left with a better understanding of the code book. There have been several request that a ten hour course for the new electrical code changes be given. Don Haskin is currently working on this. 8) On April 17 th, 2014 Mr. Don Haskin represented the Board at the MUELEC Adhoc Committee Meeting held at the Key Systems Building located at Philadelphia Road in White Marsh, MD. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the legislation that was recently proposed for the state of Maryland and to review the questions to be used in preparing electrical exams base on the 2014 National Electrical Code. There was a lengthy discussion of the electrical legislation for the state of Maryland. It should be noted that the only change that has been approved is that 10 hours of Continuing Education is required, every two years, for all Master Electricians licensed by the State of Maryland. Mr. Haskin has submitted the information for the training offered by our board to be approved for this required training. This requirement

3 DOES NOT apply to Masters that hold only a County License. When Bill 817 was submitted it was very controversial and opposed by many entities in the electric industry. It is very unclear how the proposed legislation differed so greatly from the legislation that was proposed by the ADHOC Committee, appointed to by the state to develop it. The good news is that although the proposed legislation was passed unanimously by the House, it was not allowed out of the committee for the Senate and so died without being voted upon. According to Gil Thompson our Senator, Roy Dyson was responsible for blocking this legislation. There was a lengthy discussion regarding the questions for the 2014 Exam. St. Mary s County was assigned the questions for Article , plus the Theory questions to review for the 2014 Exams. We have completed our assigned sections and were delivered to the committee at this meeting. The next full MUELEC meeting will be held on May 21 st at the Capital Tri-State Building located in Baltimore, Maryland. 9) Received from Keith Gascon to change his company name from Cooper Construction to Precision Electrical Services. 10) Received an from Minor Buckler requesting his license to be placed on the Shelved status. 11) We have several s concerning when the County will adopt the 2014 code. This information has been placed on the website, supply houses and MDIA for several months. I give the date and refer the person asking the question to the website for future information. 12) Received three s requesting information on how to change their company name on the license. 13) Southern Maryland Cable requested information to be sent to Washington DC for their license. This information was mailed out. 14) George Sparks turned in an application to take the Masters Exam in July. He had no letters from employee s confirming his time. I passed this information to him and have not heard back yet. 15) One homeowner applied for the homeowners exam. He did not have any plans with his application. I informed him he will need to bring these prints with him for the board to approve. The applicant needs to submit plans to the board. 16) Harry Knight has put together a request for public hearing concerning the 2014 NEC and the Homeowners exam for the board to review. The board approved the request and will ask Harry Knight to move forward with the request. Thanks to Mr. Knight for his help on this matter. 17) Updated several application forms on the website to eliminate information not needed. They were submitted to Planning & Zoning to be updated on the website. 18) Discussions were made concerning a license holder who was revoked for six months. He will need to reapply to obtain his St. Mary s County license.
