2 One member representing the collective bargaining unit that represents the largest number of individual workers in the Department of Corrections (COOK) Appointed members are limited to two terms DUTIES AND AUTHORITY: Select chair and vice-chair Appoint subcommittees Meet at least every three months Establish minimum standards of physical, emotional, intellectual and moral fitness for police officers Establish professional development training for public safety personnel Establish a procedure for determining whether subject personnel meet required standards Certify subject public safety personnel as qualified; revoke certification Conduct inspections of training and standards The Board may: Maintain and provide to appropriate agency information on applicants for employment Conduct or assist local areas in conducting surveys and assist in the implementation of any recommendations resulting from the surveys Encourage research by public and private agencies for the improvement of public safety services Provide grants from funds appropriated and available to law enforcement and public safety agencies to conduct surveys or research Provide training programs for person who operate detention facilities Provide other training for public safety personnel and support staff Enter into training agreements with federal, state or other governmental agencies Grant multidiscipline certification to specified individuals.
