Montegary, Chief Administrative Officer SUBJECT: Staff Report Extension of Firefighter Eligibility List Background The District has one Firefighter opening due to a retirement. The District currently has a Firefighter Eligibility List that was approved and certified for one year with an option to extend the validity for up to one year should circumstances warrant it. The list expires on December 5, An entry-level Firefighter/EMT will enter the January 2019 EMTG academy. Request and Recommendation Although a conditional offer will be made prior to the expiration of the current list, the start date is after the current list expires. Therefore, Staff requests and recommends that the Board extend the current list by two months to February 5, PROPOSED MOTION I move that the Board accept staff s recommendation and extend the validity of the current Firefighter Eligibility List to February 5, 2019.

Montegary, Chief Administrative Officer SUBJECT: Staff Report Surplus Property Auction 4 Background The District has miscellaneous equipment that is no longer of use and has been designated as surplus. Several employees have been working to identify, list and value the surplus items, most of which are stored in the Logistics Center. These items will be listed for sale on the Public Surplus auction website. Attached hereto is the next list of items to be sold or donated. Recommended Action Staff recommends that the Board of Fire Commissioners permit staff to take the following actions: 1. Dispose of all items listed on the attached through public sale in as is condition and without warranty at the stated asking prices with the final sale price subject to negotiation. (In all instances, the District s representatives shall seek to obtain the highest fair and reasonable price for the goods sold and all proceeds received from the sales shall be recorded as miscellaneous income for the District.) 2. Items that may not be sold to the public shall be donated to an agency that is in need or properly discarded or recycled if donation is not possible. Fleet Manager Spencer has contacts of fire departments that may have need of the surplus light bars and miscellaneous radio parts. DFC Wallgren has a connection to donate bunker and wildland gear to the Dominican Republic. JSM/mm Attachment

18 Woodinville Fire & Rescue M E M O R A N D U M DATE: October 2, 2018 TO: FROM: Jim Dorney, Vice Chair Board of Fire Commissioners Gregory Ahearn, Fire Chief SUBJECT: Fire Chief s Report October 2, 2018 Fire Chief s Report/Activities I am pleased to present the following summary of District activities since the Board s last regular meeting: Incidents The District responded to 83 incidents since the last Board meeting. Battalion 31 and Ladder 31 assisted Bothell Fire and E.M.S. with a 2 alarm multi-family apartment fire on September 26. Engine 35 was moved up to Fire Station #42 and handled calls for the City of Bothell while crews were committed to the incident. Budget The Budget Performance Reports for the months ending July 31, 2019 and August 31, 2019 are attached to this report. Staff has no concerns with the 2018 budget. State Auditor The State Auditor s Office started our 2017 audit today. Washington State Survey and Rating Bureau The District is still awaiting the results of our site visit. Personnel Firefighter Dave Leggett retired from the District on September 30 with almost 31 years of service. NORCOM broadcasted fitting retirement tones for a job well done. I had the opportunity to visit with Dave and the crew at Fire Station #35 on his last day and he expressed his appreciation to the District for the last 30+ years. I m pleased to report our new Community Services Officer Catherine Breault started yesterday. Ms. Breault will be orienting with CSO Weed over the next several weeks before David goes to line. David is slated to head to line on or about October 16. Thank you for extending the entry level hiring list. With that, we have extended a conditional job offer to a great candidate that will be starting our pre-employment screening. Once the

Our newest firefighter will start with the District on January 2, 2019 and starts EMTG Academy #9 on January 14. One firefighter is off line due to a duty-related injury and one firefighter continues to be off line due to non-duty related illness. One staff member remains off duty due to a non-duty related illness. Community Relations Upcoming Events: November 15: WF&R hosts the Woodinville Chamber Monthly Business Luncheon in the bay at Station 31. All Commissioners are encouraged to attend. GSA/mm
