1 The Week Ahead October 2018 Plenary session, Strasbourg Plenary Cleaner cars by Parliament will vote on a new law setting a 45% target, proposed by the Environment Committee, for reducing carbon dioxide emissions for new cars by 2030, with an intermediate target of 20% by Carmakers would also have to increase the market share of electric cars and low- emission vehicles (debate Tuesday, vote Wednesday). MEPs will discuss their priorities for the 18 October meeting of EU heads of state or government in Brussels, which is set to focus on migration, internal security and the state of play of the negotiations over the terms of the UK s withdrawal agreement, with little more than six months to go before Brexit. (debate on Tuesday) Cutting support for Turkey. MEPs will vote to cancel 70 million in pre-accession funds earmarked for Turkey, as no improvements in the fields of rule of law, democracy, human rights and press freedom have been made. MEPs will vote on new rules, which will make it quicker and simpler for EU member states to ask each other to freeze criminal assets or confiscate criminal property to cut off financing from terrorism and organised crime (debate Wednesday, vote Thursday) President s Diary.
