The British Empire was found on EVERY CONTINENT in the world a very vast empire. 4. At the turn of the 20th century, how did French Canadian nationalism change? FCN questioned Canada s involvement in the British Empire they wanted more autonomy/independence for Canada 5.Why did Wilfrid Laurier oppose the creation of a permanent imperial council in 1897? He opposed it because he worried joining the council will take away from Canada s voice within the British Empire- Canada would have less autonomy to make its own decisions/establish its own identity. 6. What compromise did the Laurier government make concerning Canada s involvement in the Boer War? He offered to send VOLUNTEER SOLDIERS to the Boer War in Africa.
