Received some comments that were addressed by January 5, There has been more discussion regarding the proof load testing. The draft is being consolidated for distribution to TG2 members prior to 2017 June Conference. This is an ongoing agenda item b. Item 0202: Coverage of Drawworks versus Drawworks Components Currently the scope of API Spec 7K covers drawworks components only and not complete drawworks assemblies. This limits licensees from applying the API monogram to complete drawworks. Should spec 7K cover drawworks, and if so, what else needs to be specified in section 9? At the June 2010 Conference, the following activities took place: This is a difficult issue. It is agreed that Drawworks may not be monogrammed under the current specification as the spec does not cover enough and leaves gaps in critical areas. Page 4 of 14

5 General Discussion more specification would be required including but not limited to types of DW, primary brakes and secondary brakes load sharing, rating, and heat absorption, drive systems The current specification covers primary load path components. Why would it be treated differently than top drives in API 8C? The answer was if the drive system failed on a top drive, the load would not fall. Norm Dyer clarification 3 rd party societies have made their own certification/rules/guidelines due to the lack of coverage in API Paul Meade comments on lacking good direction even from the 3 rd party documents. Norm/Paul discussion on braking capacity proprietary what is and what is not. Shawn Firenza to review List of licenses holders for DW components Motion by: Mark SibilleSecond by: Bob de Pont Motion to: Create a new work item to address drawworks assemblies. Motion Passed Work group will consist of Shawn Firenza, Paul Meade-Clift, Faisal Yousef and Robert Urbanowski. Shawn will approach license holders to solicit further work group members. The work group will be formed by the end of October. Shawn Firenza will advise TG02 of the membership. This is new work item #0202. Subsequent to the June 2010 Conference, the following activities took place: The work group meeting was not called in October as planned. The first meeting will occur during the June 2011 conference. At the June 2011 Conference, the following activities took place: The work group met on June 27 th to develop the scope of work. It was agreed that the standard should be limited to the physical drawworks skid. We will not consider the electrical drives, controls, etc. in this specification. The specification will include requirements for ratings (likely single line pull), primaryloadcarrying components, transmission, motors, drives, and brakes (including capacity, redundancy, and criteria for dynamic braking). The safety factor for wire rope should be considered. During the task group meeting, we discussed it further. Faisal Yousef agreed to lead the work group. The current work group members include Adrian Lis, Norm Dyer, Alf Aker, Mike Yoakum, Randy Pyrch, Mark Miser, Shawn Firenza, Paul Mead-Clift, and Robert Urbanowski Page 5 of 14

6 Robert Urbanowski commented about cylinders as hoisting is being addressed in TG3 and there may be overlaps in groups. Norm commented on API having one type of drawworks in 8C and another type in 7K. Should they be combined into either 7K or 8C? Ken Kondo discussed different as drawworks components always being in 7K while the new specification for cylinders includes more overhead applications. Mark Sibille suggested that Richard Akerman (chair of the TG3 work group) speak to API about this issue and discuss the possibility of moving drawworks to 8C. This will impact users and license holders and other. Richard and Shawn will discuss this with the Roland Goodman. Subsequent to the June 2011 Conference, the following activities took place: A work group meeting was held on May 3 rd, Minutes are attached At the June 2012 Conference, the following activities took place: Faisal Yousef presented the work group progress. The work group met in early May as well as on June 11 th. The minutes will be published along with the TG2 minutes. There is work to be done to clean-up the definition of a drawworks. The work group also identified a basic list of requirements that should be addressed in the scope of drawworks coverage. Once the scope is finalized the requirements will be divided and drafted in smaller groups. Additional work group members have been identified. The current work group includes: Faisal Yousef (Chair), Ahmed Mohammed, Ken Kondo or his representative, Norm Dyer, Jeremy Johnson, Brent Dein, Adrian Lis, Norm Dyer, Alf Aker, Mike Yoakum, Randy Pyrch, Mark Miser, Shawn Firenza, Paul Mead-Clift,Robert Urbanowski, and Richard Verhoef Subsequent to the June 2012 Conference, the following activities took place: The work group met on April 26 th and May 1, 2013 and developed the attached working document. The work group has held several meetings in the past year, and also met during the June conference. If possible, and additional work group meeting will be held after the SC8 meeting on Wednesday. There has been much progress made, but many questions remain to be answered. After the June 2014 Conference, the following activities took place: The work group had several meetings during 2015 and made some significant progress. The Work group is planning for a meeting at the June 2015 conference. At the June 2015 Conference, the following activities took place: The work group met on Monday and reviewed the entire draft and made some changes based on the feedback and discussion. It was suggested that the draft should be circulated to the 7K licensees for review. It was also suggested the draft be reviewed by well services contractor. The work group may require two to three more meetings before a draft is ready for circulation and ballot. At the TG2 meeting, the draft was discussed and comments were made regarding the inclusion of the current load path carrying components. It was noted that API 7K already has that covered. It was also suggested to review API 7L for possible changes due to this work item. The work group will address the above issues. Robert Urbanowski suggested that once the draft is completed, it should be sent to the task group for comments prior to ballot. After The June 2015 Conference: A work group meeting was held at Canrig and continued working on the draft. Discussed the marking and control language to include as an Annex as INFORMATIVE. The work group is planning on meeting on Monday June 27 at the conference. Page 7 of 14

8 At The June 2016 Conference: The work group met on Monday and reviewed the comments that were received from Katie Burkle on the draft that was circulated to the work group on June 15, The group then reviewed the draft and several changes were suggested to the definitions, load rating, brakes and quality control sections. Extensive discussion took place regarding the maximum fast line load during emergency stop. The current draft calls for the fast line load not to exceed 90% of the minimum breaking force of the new rope. Dennis Fetter objected to the use of 90% but he had no way of quantifying what the value should be. This issue still on the table to be resolved. At the June 2016 Conference TG2 Meeting Faisal Yousef noted that the Work Group met over the period since last Conference and Proposed Wording for review. Review of Proposed Wording. Comments and discussion on various points of proposed wording. Changes to proposed wording recorded separate to Minutes. After The June 2016 Conference: The work group met on March 15, Draft 2 was circulated the work group members for review prior to the meeting. Comments from Norm Dyer, Mark Sibille, Dennis Fetter and Alf Henry Aker were received. The work group addressed some of the comments during the meeting. The work group also discussed the need for used wire rope test data. Brent Dein and Tim Watson volunteered to search and provide data. The work group also worked on rewording the emergency brake section and Tim Watson volunteered to propose new wording at the next meeting. Andrew Roskey volunteered to do some calculations on existing drawworks to help determine the fast line tension percentage of minimum wire rope breaking strength during emergency stop. The work group met again on April 11, 2017 and reviewed some of the test data received from Tim Watson and was not conclusive. More data is needed. Andrew presented some calculations and graphs but it was a sample of one drawwork. Page 8 of 14
