1 96th Annual Conference Business Minutes Wednesday, April 30, 2014 Call to Order Chairman Les Welk called to order the 96th Annual Session of the NWMN Annual Conference at 10:08am in the auditorium of LifePoint Church in Vancouver, WA. The Business Session was preceded by the memorial/communion service and prayer. Voting Constituency (Bylaws p. 24) All voting constituency must be present and registered by signing in for the roster. Voting constituency consists of: All NWMN credentialed ministers All certified delegates (GC affiliated churches, NWMN affiliated churches, Cooperative churches) Report of the Roster Chairman Les Welk called for the report of the roster. Secretary-Treasurer Don Detrick reported the following number of registered ministers and guests at 10:09am. Eric Rust was asked to pray over the Welks. Chairman Les Welk shared an update on his current physical state and thanked the NWMN for the outpouring of love and prayer. First Election Ballot Results North Central Region Columbia Basin Nomination: Vern Weaver Wenatchee Valley Nomination: Vern Weaver Okanogan Nomination: Vern Weaver Report on the First Election Ballot for North Central Region Executive Presbyter cast at registration Vern Weaver was elected with 409 votes. 409 were cast with 273 needed to elect. First Election Ballot Results Eastern Region Upper Columbia Nomination: Dennis Noble Spokane Nomination: Dennis Noble Northern Idaho Nomination: Dennis Noble Snake River Nomination: Dennis Noble Report on the First Election Ballot for Metro Region Executive Presbyter cast at registration Dennis Noble was elected with 381 votes. 395 were cast with 264 needed to elect. Chairman Les Welk asked everyone to show appreciation for the Executive Presbyters with applause. General Presbytery Election Results General Presbyter Pastoral Position (Ordained Minister) Report on General Presbyter Pastoral Position (Ordained Minister) Nominating Ballot Results Nominees receiving 6 or more votes: Troy Jones, Cal Carpenter, Steve Jamison, Don Ross Report on the First Election Ballot Results Troy Jones (208), Cal Carpenter (29), Steve Jamison (38), Don Ross (50). No election. 325 votes were cast with 217 needed to elect. Report on the Second Election Ballot Results Troy Jones was elected with 285 votes. 319 votes cast with 213 needed to elect. 3

4 MOTION: Suspend the order of business as outlined in the NWMN Bylaws Article VI, section 6, b giving the opportunity to dispense with reading of the printed reports with the exception of the Secretary-Treasurer s report and to intersperse elections with reports and other business, and receive all printed reports with the exception of the finance report. MSC General Presbyter Ordained Minister Under 40 Report on General Presbyter Ordained Minister Under 40 Nominating Ballot Results (one year term) Nominees receiving 6 or more votes: Mike Acker, Beth Backes, Nik Baumgart, Brent Colby, Peter Degon, Jeff Duchemin, Justin Farley, Chris Hinkle, Josh Jamison, Paul LaRose, David Lyke, Dan Metteer, Andrew Murch, Jason Noble, Tyler Sollie, Joshua Ziefle. Nik Baumgart and Jeff Duchemin asked for their names to be removed. 5 Report on the Third Election Ballot Results Jodi Detrick was elected with 237 votes. 250 votes cast with 167 needed to elect. Assistant Superintendent Election Results Incumbent / Nominee: Dave Cole Report on the First Election Ballot (Conducted at Registration) Dave Cole was elected with 399 votes. 423 votes cast with 282 needed to elect. Chairman Les Welk and Darice honored the Cole s with flowers, three checks (one for Dave, Debbie, and to pay forward) along with words of appreciation. Chairman Les Welk honored Secretary-Treasurer Don and Jodi Detrick for their 10 years of service at the NWMN with flowers and words of appreciation. Reports Secretary s Report Don Detrick Exhibit 3 Secretary Treasurer, Don Detrick reported on the numbers and statistics of the churches and ministers of the NWMN. MOTION: Motion to accept the Secretary-Treasurer s Report as presented. Bob and Carolyn Stone were recognized for their service at Teen Challenge Graham Women s Center, Bob shared and a video was shown. Dave Cole then prayed over the present and future of Teen Challenge. An announcement video was shown for the 2014 Men s Conference. MOTION: To receive Assistant Superintendent Dave Cole s report as presented with appreciation. MSC Finance Report Greg Stern Exhibit 4 Director of Finance, Greg Stern presented the Finance Report for the NWMN. MOTION: Accept the Director of Finance, Greg Stern s report as presented. MSC 5

6 Northwest University President Joe Castleberry Exhibit 5 Dr. Joseph Castleberry shared an update on Northwest University in Kirkland, WA. MOTION: Accept the report of the President of Northwest University, Dr. Joseph Castleberry as presented. MSC Resolutions Exhibit 6 Secretary-Treasurer, Don Detrick presented the 2014 Bylaws Revision Resolution sponsored by the Network Presbytery and explained the proposed changes. Chairman Les Welk opened the floor for comments speaking to the whole document in favor or opposition. Fiscal Impact for Resolution Exhibit 7 Debate/discussion for and against the resolution was presented by three individuals. Question was called for. MOTION: Accept the 2014 Bylaws Revision Resolution as presented by voice vote. Motion Passed. ACMR Report Mel Ming Mel Ming, Director of Pastoral Care & Development shared the ACMR church stats. MOTION: Accept the ACMR report as presented by Mel Ming. MSC Chairman Les Welk recognized the NWMN Leadership Team followed by applause. Church Ministries/Multiplication Report Jeffery Portmann Jeffery Portmann recognized Steve Severyn as the outgoing Worship & Arts Facilitator and Kenny Philebaum who will be filling the position. Recognize Network Team Les Welk Chairman Les Welk recognized the NWMN Support Team and a video was shown. Announce 2015 Annual Conference Location Lake City Community Church, Coeur d Alene, ID; April 27 29, Call Business Session Officially Closed Chairman Les Welk officially closed the 96 th Business Session of the Northwest Ministry Network at 1:09pm.
