As requested by the Executive Board in resolution EB34.R20, the Director- General submits the following further report on the progress with regard to accommodation for the Regional Office for Africa. 2. The preliminary and final plans, for the extension of the building have been studied and approved. Special studies are under way in ;connexion with the airconditioning system, lifts and other technical details. 3. 工 t is expected that invitations to bid on the construction will be invited before the end of the year and that actual construction; work will start early in Its completion is expected to ta.ke approximately two years. 4. Pending completion of the office extension, in order to meet an urgent need for additional office space^ a portion of the ground floor level of the existing office building which was originally an open terrace^ has been provisionally enclosed, providing the equivalent of eight offices. 5. It is not possible, however, to determine the additional credits required until bids have been received. Should this information become available in time for the thirtyfifth session, an addendum to this document will be issued. In case the additional information should not be available by that time, the Board may consider referring this matter to the Ad Hoc Committee of the Executive Board which presumably will meet as usual prior to the Eighteenth World Health Assembly.
