PROVISIONAL AGENDA AND DURATION OF THE THIRTY-FIRST WORLD HEALTH ASSEMBLY

1 WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION ORGANISATION MONDIALE DE LA SANTÉ EBÓl/41 23 December 1977 EXECUTIVE BOARD Sixty-first Session indtxed Provisional agenda item 35 PROVISIONAL AGENDA AND DURATION OF THE THIRTY-FIRST WORLD HEALTH ASSEMBLY According to Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of the World Health Assembly, the Board shall prepare the provisional agenda of each regular session of the Health Assembly after consideration of proposals submitted by the Director-General. Further, following the decision taken by the Executive Board at its sixtieth session, the Board shall fix the duration of the Thirty-first Assembly at the time of the preparation of the provisional agenda for that Assembly. The attached proposals submitted by the Director-General have taken into account the provisions of resolution WHA14.51, paragraph 2,1 which reads as follows : "REQUESTS the Executive Board, in preparing the agenda of sessions of the Health Assembly, as provided by Article 28 (f) of the Constitution, to give special consideration to the arrangement of the agenda in such a way as to facilitate the business of the Assembly. 11 Attention is also drawn to Rule 34 of the Rules of Procedure of the Health Assembly, according to which "the Health Assembly, after consideration of the recommendations of the Board and the General Committee, shall allocate items of the agenda to the two main committees in such a way as to provide an appropriate balance in the work of these committees". These proposals include: (a) items resulting from decisions of the Health Assembly and of the Executive Board; (b) procedural and other items required by the Constitution of the Organization, the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly, and the Staff and Financial Regulations; (c) an item which has been included at the request of the Government of Kuwait, namely item 3.11 "Amendment to Article 74 of the WHO Constitution".
