On Julyi21, 2008, a B-52inamed "RAIDRi21" took off from Guam and encountered engine problems and crashed into the Pacific. That B-52iwas on its way to the Philippines to celebrate Liberation Day to mark when the Philippines were liberated from the Japanese. On board was the pilot, Major Christopher Cooper, 33iyears old, who was a graduate of The University of Texas from Round Rock. Also on board were Major Brent Williams, 37iyears old; Captain Michael Dodson, who was 31; First Lieutenant Joshua Shepherd, who was just 26 years old; First Lieutenant Robert Gerren; and also George Martin, who was a graduate of the Ohio State University, my alma mater.
