HISTORIC IMPROVEMENT AWARDS Two applications for Historic Preservation Improvement Awards have been received. They are: Art Reach of Mid Michigan for the renovation of their front façade. Renovations included: o Repair of brickwork, new signage and lighting. Rubble s Bar for the renovation of their front façade. Renovations included: o Replacement of clapboard, painting, new doors, lighting and signage. Applications and images are attached for your review. Requested Action: Review and consider choosing historic preservation improvement award winners. HISTORIC PRESERVATION MONTH PROCLAMATION May is National Historic Preservation Month, a time when people across America celebrate their shared history, culture, and special places. Sponsored annually by the National Trust for Historic Preservation since 1973, it is designed to raise awareness about the power historic preservation has to protect and enhance our historic communities. For National Historic Preservation Month 2017 I have written a proclamation scheduled for the April 24 City Commission meeting. PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, historic preservation is an effective tool for revitalizing neighborhoods, fostering local pride, and maintaining community character while enhancing livability; and WHEREAS, historic preservation is relevant for communities across the nation, both urban and rural, and for Americans of all ages, walks of life, and ethnic backgrounds; and WHEREAS, it is important to celebrate the role of history in our lives and the contributions made by dedicated individuals in helping to preserve the tangible aspects of the heritage that has shaped us as a people; and

3 WHEREAS, This Place Matters. is the theme for National Historic Preservation Month, NOW, THEREFORE, I Kathleen Ling, Mayor of the City of Mt. Pleasant, do proclaim the month of May 2017 as NATIONAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION MONTH and call upon the people of Mt. Pleasant to join their fellow citizens across the United States in recognizing and participating in this special observance.
