11 VOTING INFORMATION You are eligible to register to vote if you are: o A citizen of the United States At least 18 years of age or wilt be by the next general election A resident of Fairfax County or Fairfax City Voter Registration WHERE: WHEN: IFYOU MOVE: Fairfax County residents may register at the General Registrar's Office, 4031 University Drive, Fairfax, Monday through Friday, 8 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. and at Fairfax County Libraries from 7 t09 P.M. on Wednesday evenings. Fairfax City residents may register at the General Registrar's Office, Room 201, City Hall, Fairfax, Monday through Friday 8:30 A.M. to 5 P.M. and effective March through November, on the first two Saturdays of each month, 9 A.M. to 12 noon. Additional sites and hours are scheduled during the period preceding closing of the books prior to election. Call the registrar's office for further information. You may register year round except during the 30 days prior to a general or primary election or the 13 days prior to a special election. Registration is per manent unless you move or fail to vote at least once in four consecutive years. If you move within your city or county, you must notify the Registrar in writing. In Fairfax County you may use the back of your voter information card or a change of address card which is available in all libraries. If you move from one county or city to another within Virginia, you must transfer your registration either in person at the Registrar's Office, or by mail through contacting the registrar in either your present or former jurisdiction.
12 Absentee Voting BY MAIL: Members of the armed forces and the Merchant Marine, persons regularly employed outside the canlinenlal U.S., and spouses and dependents residing with such persons may vote by mail in all elections. If not registered, such persons may register by mail. Students attending school and their spouses, and persons who are unable to go lethe polls because of illness or physical disability may vote absentee ballots by mail if they are registered voters. Applications may be obtained by contacting the General Registrar's Office and by following instructions exactly. Applications must be received by the Aegistrar at least 5 days prior to an election. Any registered voter who anticipates being absent on the day of the election and for more than 40 days and less than 10 months prior to the election may file an application in person at the General Registrar's office to receive a ballot by mail. IN Any registered voter who anticipates being absent PERSON: on election day may vote absentee in person at the General Registrar's office or at a satellite location within the 40 days prior to an election. Both the application and ballot may be completed in onevisit.
