1 UNOFFICIAL COPY SUBJECT TO BOARD APPROVAL REGULAR MEETING Call to Order The Lebanon Township Board of Education met in regular session on, at 7:35 pm, in the Woodglen School PAC. President Roncoroni called the meeting to order with the flag salute and read the following announcement: I would like to announce and have placed in the minutes that adequate notice of this regularly scheduled meeting of the Lebanon Township Board of Education has been provided in accordance with the Open Public Meetings Act by annual notification to the Hunterdon County Democrat on May 11, A copy of this notice has also been posted at the public schools within the Township, on the public bulletin board in the Municipal Building and filed with the Township Clerk. Roll Call Present: Mrs. Bernstein, Mrs. Cahill, Mr. Roll, Mr. Roncoroni, Mr. Pojedinec, Mrs. Szymczak, Mrs. Walsh, Mrs. Weiler and Mr. Wilhelms. Absent: None Public Comments None. Approval of Minutes Mrs. Szymczak moved, Mr. Wilhelms seconded, to approve the minutes of the September 13, 2011 meeting as presented. Motion carried by voice vote, with Mr. Pojedinec abstaining. Correspondence Califon BOE Borough of Hampton Committee Reports Buildings & Grounds Mr. Pojedinec reported that the Valley View parking lot paving project is complete and traffic flow for student pick up is much improved. Curriculum Mrs. Walsh reported that the committee will meet on 10/12/11. Finance Mr. Wilhelms reported that the committee plans a short meeting after the regular board meeting and that Mr. Pojedinec had reviewed the bills and all were in order. Personnel Mrs. Weiler noted the hiring motions and board action to retain NJSBA to conduct a superintendent search. Policy Mrs. Bernstein noted policy for board action. Public Relations Mrs. Cahill reported that, pending full board approval, the committee plans to school district the fall newsletter, the Spotlight. HCSBA Mrs. Weiler noted upcoming meetings. HCESC Mrs. Burd reported that she had attended meetings on 9/26/11, 9/27/11 and 10/4/11 where routine business was conducted. 1

2 Administrators Comments Judith Burd, Superintendent of the Lebanon Township School District, noted that the district has conducted two successful back to school nights at Woodglen on 9/15/11 and Valley View on 9/22/11 Mrs. Burd reported that a bus evacuation drill was held 9/16/11. Everything went very smoothly. These drills are conducted in Lebanon Twp. Park to avoid stopping traffic on the road in front of Woodglen School. Violence and Vandalism Report for (EVVRS) Mrs. Burd reported on the incidents reflected in the Electronic Violence and Vandalism Reporting System for the school year. There were no reportable incidents at Woodglen or Valley View School Code of Student Conduct Mrs. Burd reported on Code of Student Conduct violations. The code is printed in the school calendar, printed in the Woodglen student handbook and is explained to all students at Woodglen and Valley View. The Code of Student Conduct sets a positive tone as it establishes expectations for appropriate behavior. The Principals keep lists of all violations of the Code of Student Conduct. HIB Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying Mrs. Burd reported that the district has concluded 12 investigations since the last board meeting. Two incidents are still under investigation. Non HIB Incidents Valley View: incident 4 Woodglen School: incidents 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 15. Woodglen incidents 11 and 14 are still under investigation. Woodglen incidents 6 and 10 rose to the level of HIB. The parents have been informed and the school counselor has been involved New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge (NJ ASK) Mrs. Burd reported on the results of the NJ ASK testing conducted last May. Lebanon Township scores consistently higher than the state average. Therefore, reviewing scores in comparison to schools in our District Factor Group (DFG-I) is more meaningful. Mrs. Burd explained that no NJ ASK test results are problematic, but even slight differences are used to focus curriculum initiatives. 2

7 Old Business None New Business None Public Comments Mr. Shore explained that SDG Alarmtronics has provided alarm monitoring services to Lebanon Twp. School District for many years and would like to continue. President Roncoroni requested that Mr. Shore further explain in a letter to the Superintendent.
