1 Minutes of Regular Meeting of the Board of Education Northville Public Schools A Regular Meeting of the Board of Education of Northville Public Schools was held Tuesday, June 14, 2016, beginning at 6:30 PM in the Hillside Middle School 775 N. Center St. Northville, MI Call to Order Meeting called to order by President Phelps at 6:39 p.m. at Hillside Middle School. 2. Pledge of Allegiance President Phelps led the Board in the Pledge of Allegiance 3. Roll Call Members Present: Mr. Adam Phelps, President Ms. Cynthia Jankowski, Vice President Mr. Roland Hwang, Secretary Mr. Matthew Wilk, Treasurer Ms. Ann Kalass, Trustee (absent excused) Mr. James Mazurek, Trustee Ms. Sarah Prescott, Trustee Administrators Present: Ms. Mary Kay Gallagher, Superintendent Mr. Dave Rodgers, Asst. Supt. for Human Resources Mr. Mike Zopf, Asst. Supt. for Finance & Operations Ms. Deanna Barash, Asst. Supt. for Instuction Ms. Nadine Harris, Director of Special Services 4. Adoption of Agenda Superintendent Gallagher noted a change made to the agenda prior to the meeting. The 2016/17 MHSAA Resolution was removed from the Consent Agenda and will be place on the 6/21/16 Policy Subcommittee Agenda for further discussion. Motion No. 15/ by Vice President Jankowski, supported by Trustee Mazurek, that the agenda be adopted as presented. Motion carried Communications

2 Secretary Hwang reported two communications: a) Wayne RESA Board Highlights - May 18, 2016; and b) Northville Youth Assistance Program Report - June 6, Consent Resolutions Motion No. 15/ by Vice President Jankowski, supported by Trustee Mazurek, that the Board accept the consent agenda items for approval as presented: a) Minutes of the 6/09/16 Special Call Meeting of the Board of Education; b) MHSAA 2016/17 Membership Resolution beginning August 1, 2016 through July 31, 2017; c) Field Trip Request by Northville High School Varsity Competitive Dance Team for a National Competition in Orlando, FL, on February 2-6, 2017; d) Field Trip request by Northville High School Varsity Baseball Spring Break Trip to Vero Beach, FL, on March 31 - April 8, 2017; e) Field Trip request by Northville High School World Language Department for Service Learning trip to the Dominican Republic in Summer 2017; f) MEIM 2016/17 Membership Dues totaling $365; and g) Bill Warrants totaling $1,093, Motion carried Superintendent s Report/Update a) Retirement Resolutions Motion No. 15/ by Vice President Jankowski, supported by Treasurer Wilk, that the Board approve Retirement Resolutions honoring retiring staff members for their years of service to the children, families, and staff of Northville Public Schools as presented. Motion carried 6-0. b) Retirement & 25 Years of Service Program Superintendent Gallagher shared that tonight the district is honoring some very dedicated staff members. Prior to the Board meeting tonight, there was a reception recognizing these individuals. There are nine staff members being honored for their 25 Years of Service. Superintendent Gallagher presented a Certificate of Recognition to the 25 Years of Service recipients that were present and those that were unable to attend will be sent via mail: Brian Balcoff, Kathleen Bradley, Chris Cronin, Christina Castellano, Bryan Masi, Laura McMillan, Laura Melvin, Gina Piergentili, and Danielle Popp. Superintendent Gallagher noted there are 24 retirees with over 500 combined years of service. Superintendent Gallagher recognized their hard work, dedication, and commitment to the children of Northville. These individuals have given so much of themselves to Northville Public Schools; and the Board, administration, building staff, and students thank each one of them for their service. Each respective building principal shared stories / memories about the staff members being honored tonight. Superintendent Gallagher presented each

3 retiree in attendance with their resolution and a gift for their years of service. The retirees include: Candace Bingen, John Campbell, Margaret Coponen, Pamela Dase, Kathryn Devendorf, Paul Durkee, Patricia Hansen, Jacquelyn Hillard, Carmen Kennedy, Marilyn Kowalkowski, Carmen Kuckenbecker, Martine Leech, Deborah Madeja, Jeannine Moehle, William Reynolds, Sharon Rittenhouse, Karen Schaumann, Jacqueline Silverman, Diane Taylor, Kathryn Thompson, Carla Tibble, and Barb Trudeau. Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources gave closing remarks and thanked each staff member for their contributions to Northville Public Schools. Treasurer Wilk commented on what a journey they have been on, and encouraged them to reflect back on their time in the district. The Board thanked the staff for their dedication to the children of Northville. 8. Public Comments John Stewart spoke in support of public education. 9. New Hire: Amerman Elementary Principal Motion No 15/ by Trustee Mazurek, supported by Vice President Jankowski, that the Board approve a one year probationary NASA Administrator Contract to Mr. Marco Marando, principal, Amerman Elementary School, at a total base salary of $84,085 for the 2016/17 school year, per the NPS - NASA Agreement, as presented. Motion carried New Hire: Teachers Motion No. 15/ by Trustee Mazurek supported by Vice President Jankowski, that the Board award one year probationary NEA Teacher Contracts to the following certified teachers for the 2016/17 school year as presented. Motion carried 6-0. Sabrina Stevanovic, 1.0 FTE Dayna Denoyer, 1.0 FTE Joshua Sacks, 1.0 FTE Kaitlynn Gilbert, 1.0 FTE Lauren Borchard, 1.0 FTE Sarah Dominick, 1.0 FTE Kaitlyn Burris, 1.0 FTE 11. Contract Award: Pre Sale/Marketing Services Motion No. 15/ by Treasurer Wilk, supported by Vice President Jankowski,

4 that the Board authorize the administration to award a contract to Great Northern Consulting Group for PreSale/Marketing Services in an amount not to exceed $40,000 as presented. Motion carried Policy Consideration: First Reading Motion No. 15/ by Vice President Jankowski, supported by Secretary Hwang, that the Board approve Policy Student Code of Conduct, for first reading as presented. Motion carried Wayne RESA Enhancement Millage Resolution Motion No. 15/ by Vice President Jankowski, supported by Trustee Mazurek, that the Northville Board of Education is not in favor of the Resolution in Support of a Regional Enhancement Millage, as presented. Roll Call Vote: Jankowski yes; Kalass absent; Mazurek yes; Phelps yes; Wilk yes; Prescott yes; Hwang yes. Motion carried 6-0. Treasurer Wilk requested the chart showing Northville as a Donor District be included in the official minutes. 14. Public Comments None. 15. Added Agenda Items None. 16. Questions/Comments from Board Members Cooke School graduation will take place at Cooke at noon tomorrow. The Special Call Meeting will take place on 6/21/16 at 7:00 in Room 302 of the Board Office. There will be a Closed Session for the purpose of the Superintendent s Evaluation. There will be a Human Resources Policy Subcommittee meeting on 6/21/16 at 6:00 p.m. in Room 302 of the Board Office. There will be a Finance Subcommittee Meeting on 6/21/16 at 6:00 p.m. in Room 104 of the Board Office. 17. Adjournment
