1 Toledo-Lucas County Public Library Minutes of the Regular Board of Trustees Meeting June 28, 2018 Main Library 8:30 a.m. Present Michael Dansack, Dennis Johnson, Jesus Salas, Susan Savage, George Tucker Roll Call The meeting was called to order by Mr. Tucker at 8:30 a.m., followed by roll call. Minutes The minutes of the regular meeting of May 24, 2018 were approved on motion of Mr. Salas, seconded by Mrs. Savage; all voted aye, motion carried. Resolution of Appreciation No honoring Donna Christian The Board unanimously adopted a Resolution of Appreciation honoring Donna Christian on motion of Mr. Johnson, seconded by Mrs. Savage; all voted aye, motion carried. Ms. Christian has for 40 years repeatedly demonstrated her commitment to the goals and mission of the Library as a librarian. Note: A copy of the resolution is attached to these official minutes. Director s Comments Mr. Scoles congratulated Ms. Christian and wished her well. The last staff and public forums to discuss the renewal and renovations of Main Library upgrades are taking place today. The newly remodeled Sylvania Branch will have its grand opening on Friday, September 7. Deputy Director s Comments Mr. Kucsma also mentioned that the September 7 grand opening of Sylvania Branch coincides with other first Friday events held in downtown Sylvania. Mr. Kucsma pointed out a Toledo Area Cultural Leaders (TACL) flyer in the board members packets that shows the impact TACL has on the Northwest Ohio area. TACL recently met with the mayor of Toledo to inform him of TACL s resources that can be used to help promote the region. Employment Report The employment report was approved on motion of Mr. Dansack, seconded by Mr. Johnson; all voted aye, motion carried. 4 Mott Change Order Construction is underway for the new Mott Branch Library. The Buildings and Grounds Committee met recently with Construction Manager Lathrop to review the following change order item by item. Mr. Johnson moved approval of the total value of $117, for changes, seconded by Mrs. Savage; all voted aye, motion carried. 1. Below grade adhered veneer change $1, Vapor barrier alternate product ($7,047.00) 3. Roof hatch alternate ($1,106.00) 4. Alternate roof layout $3, Parking lot entry drive undercuts $8, Site utility demo discrepancies ($2,180.00) 7. AT&T structure obstruction $113, Sylvania Change Order The Library is completing an addition and renovation to the Sylvania Branch Library. The Buildings and Grounds Committee met recently with Stough and Stough Architects to review the following change order item by item. Mr. Johnson moved approval of the total value of $66, for changes, seconded by Mr. Salas; all voted aye, motion carried. 1. Ground water discovered in south drive at south parking extension add 6 drainage tiles to nearby catch basin #3 (CAR #10). Also add finger drains at existing catch basins #3 and #4 (CAR #12) $4, Poor soil and wood from previously demolished house discovered near Monroe Street was excavated and replaced with compacted fill (CAR #10) $15, Bike rack upgrade powder coat over galvanized (CAR #11) $ West end roller blind 3% light fabric (CAR #11) $ RFI #23 Reuse existing parking lot pole and install additional LED fixtures (10) on existing poles (CAR #11) $8, Donor wall length and tree conflict issue, fence extension. New striping already in contract price (CAR #12) $6, RFI #24 Sprinkler head covers most white, some silver, some chrome, come custom copper (CAR #12). $2, Staff Organizations Brief remarks were heard from Amy Hartman, APLE representative and Harry Johnson, CWA representative. Rare Book Room Ready to Read librarians Cristin Brown and Lauren Boeke, along with Youth Services Coordinator Nancy Eames, gave a presentation on the Ready to Read program, which reaches children in Lucas County from birth to pre-k to help prepare them for Kindergarten. The team meets with children and families in libraries and non-traditional settings, such as laundromats, TARTA buses, retail stores, doctors offices, the NICU at Toledo Hospital, and other locations throughout the county. Regular Meeting, July 26, 2018, Main Library Mr. Tucker announced that the next regular meeting of the Board would be on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 8:30 a.m., at the Main Library, 325 N. Michigan St., Toledo. Adjournment There being no further business to come before the Board, Mr. Tucker asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting.
