3 SNOHOMISH COUNTY COUNCIL Snohomish County, Washington MOTION NO MOTION RE-APPOINTING NICK VANDAM, MARK CRAVEN, DAN BARTELHEIMER, MIKE HARNDEN AND JEFF ELLINGSEN TO THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO THE COUNTY ASSESSOR ON AGRICULTURE AND OPEN SPACE WHEREAS, the Snohomish County Agricultural Advisory Board established by SCC has expressed interest in appointment of an advisory committee to serve the County Assessor and active farming community; and WHEREAS, RCW provides for legislative authorities to appoint five-member committees representing the active farming community to advise County Assessors with respect to implementation of guidelines established by the Department of Revenue for the assessment of open space, farms, and agricultural lands; and WHEREAS, Nick VanDam is a lifelong dairy farmer and is well qualified to serve on the Advisory Committee to the Assessor; and WHEREAS, Mark Craven is the owner of Craven farms and is well qualified to serve on the Advisory Committee to the Assessor; and WHEREAS, Dan Bartelheimer is the owner of Sno Valley Farms and is well qualified to serve on the Advisory Committee to the Assessor; and WHEREAS, Mike Harnden is the owner of Harnden tree nursery and is well qualified to serve on the Advisory Committee to the Assessor; and WHEREAS, Jeff Ellingsen is the owner of Port Susan Farms and is well qualified to serve on the Advisory Committee to the Assessor; and WHEREAS, these reappointments are further nominated by County Assessor, Cindy Portmann pursuant to RCW and WAC ; NOW, THEREFORE, ON MOTION, the Snohomish County Council hereby confirms the reappointments of Nick VanDam, Mark Craven, Dan Bartelheimer, Mike Harnden and Jeff Ellingsen to serve on the Advisory Committee to the County Assessor on Agriculture and Open Space for a one-year term expiring on April 30, PASSED this day of, SNOHOMISH COUNTY COUNCIL Snohomish County, Washington ATTEST: Council Chair Asst. 4 Snohomish Cindy Portmann County Assessor Linda Hjelle Chief Deputy M/S# Rockefeller Ave Everett, WA Date: February 26, 2013 To: From: Subject: Stephanie Wright, Snohomish County Council Chair Aaron Reardon, Snohomish County Executive Recommendation of the reappointment of 5 members to serve on the Snohomish County Advisory Committee to the Assessor on Agriculture and Open Space through April 30, The farming and agriculture community of Snohomish County, specifically the Snohomish County Agricultural Advisory Board has expressed interest in assisting the Assessor in implementing assessment guidelines as established by the department of revenue for the assessment of open space, farms and agricultural lands and classified timber lands. RCW and WAC authorize the county legislative authority to establish such an advisory committee to be composed of five members of the active farming community within the county for the purpose of providing this assistance to the Assessor. Motion No established the Agricultural Advisory Committee to the Assessor on February 2, 2009, with the understanding that the Assessor would recommend to Council on an annual basis a list of individuals from the farming community who would be interested in serving on the committee for 1 year terms. As previously noted, the committee would be comprised of five members. Following is a list of individuals who are currently serving on the committee and the Assessor would like to recommend there reappointment for The Council may be aware of other individuals who would have an interest in serving in such a capacity. Should the Council so desire, their names can be added to the list below. All of the names submitted by the Assessor are involved in one or more aspects of fanning or in the purchasing and selling of farm and agricultural lands.
