III. IV. Call to Order Senator Reeves welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m. Roll Call Senator Williams called roll Approval of Minutes A. Senator Williams reported that the minutes from the April 17, 2008 meeting were distributed to members via Announce and Health Sciences Announce. The minutes of April 17, 2008 were approved as written. V. Special Order of the Day A. Recognition of retiring members Senator Reeves presented certificates to retiring members of the Staff Senate. Certificates were presented to Michael Dixon, Johnnie Eastwood, Audra Thomas, Ann Taft, Kay Evans, Terri Stansbury, Jackie Petway, Michelle Wallace, Teresa Tripp, Christa Radford, Harold Coleman, Vicki Johnson, Wayne Reeves. The certificates were signed by Senator Reeves and Chancellor Ballard and read: 1

Recognition of Senators for exemplary leadership and service beyond the call of their staff senate duties. Your attention to detail and outstanding work ethics have driven the Staff Senate to a level that has prospered. Recognition of Senators for their service as an officer. Certificates were presented to Wayne Reeves for serving as Chair of Staff Senate, Paula Daughtry for serving as Chair Elect of Staff Senate, Mary Susan Williams for serving as Secretary of Staff Senate, Joai Zary for serving as UNC Staff Assembly Delegate, Michael Dixon for serving as Chair of Communications & Marketing Committee, Audra Thomas for serving as Chair of Diversity Committee, Rick Yakubowski for serving as Chair of Human Resource Services Committee and Amanda Pantelidis for serving as Chair of Rewards and Recognition Committee. Certificates were signed by Senator Reeves and Chancellor Ballard and read: For your service as the {Insert Office here} of the ECU Staff Senate, you are hereby recognized for your professionalism, reliability, and enthusiasm in serving the ECU Staff Senate. As a member of the ECU Staff Senate, you are hereby recognized for your dedication and commitment in providing service for the East Carolina University community. Your efforts are recognized and greatly appreciated. May 15, D. Senator Reeves released retiring senators. E. Senator Reeves thanked all the Senate members who submitted nominations for the Executive Committee positions. He thanked all members who were nominated and expressed appreciation on behalf of the Senate for their consideration of the nomination There was one nominee for Chair Elect - Senator Johnnie Eastwood.

3 2. There was one nominee for Secretary - Senator Rosalie Farley. 3. There were 3 nominees for Treasurer Senator Bristol, Senator Pantelidis and Senator Williams. The nominees were asked to speak to the members regarding their interest in the nominated position. 4. There were 6 nominees for UNC Staff Assembly Delegate. Senator Bristol, Senator Hulsey, Senator Marshall, Senator Newton, Senator Potter, Senator Zary. Ballots were distributed to the Staff Senators and they were instructed to vote for one nominee for Chair-Elect, Secretary and Treasurer and two nominees for UNC Staff Assembly Delegate. F. Votes for nominees of the Executive Committee and UNC Staff Assembly were tallied. Senator Daughtry, Senator Williams and Ex-Officio Turner tallied the votes for the Chair-Elect, Secretary and Treasurer positions. Senator Reeves announced the results of the vote: Chair-Elect for 08-09: Senator Johnnie Eastwood Secretary for 08-09: Senator Rosalie Farley Treasurer for 08-09: There was a tie between Senator Pantelidis and Senator Williams. Ballots were distributed a second time - there was another tie between Senator Pantelidis and Senator Williams. Ballots were distributed a third time - Senator Pantelidis received a majority of the votes. Senator Reeves announced the Treasurer for 08-09: Senator Amanda Pantelidis. G. Senator Reeves announced that the UNC Staff Assembly Delegates for would be: Primary: Senator Phil Hulsey Alternates: Senator Angela Marshall and Senator Joani Zary VI. Comments from the Executive Committee 3

4 A. Comments from the Senator Reeves. Senator Reeves deferred comments stating that he would include his remarks with the meeting minutes. See attached remark from Senator Reeves. B. Comments from the Chair, Senator Daughtry. Senator Daughtry congratulated everyone on their nominations and selection to the Executive Committee. Expressed that she was looking forward to a prosperous year for the Staff Senate. Senator Daughtry notified senate body that the Staff Senate would continue to meet through the summer. Meetings would more than likely be held in the Health Sciences Building College of Nursing. Meeting dates and location would be sent out in the near future via . C. Comments from Secretary, Senator Williams. Senator Williams expressed thanks and gratitude to all senators for a wonderful year. VII. Adjournment Senator Daughtry thanked everyone for coming and adjourned the meeting at 5:00 p.m. 4

5 Chancellor s Staff Senate East Carolina University Greenville, NC a representative body of employees to promote communication between staff and administration May 15, 2008 Chair s Final Address to the Staff Senate Mendenhall Student Center MultiPurpose Room 3:30 5:00 PM It has been my pleasure to serve you as your Chair for the past 13 months. You placed your faith and trust in me through our election process and I thank you. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to few key people that you don t get to see or hear about very often, that made my job much easier. Ms Lou McNamee along with Ms Barbara Smith in the Chancellors Office. Two marvelous ladies that do an outstanding job. Stephanie Coleman and Teresa Shook they have kept our funding on track and keep our finances in order. All of our ExOfficios the wonderful HR, EEO, OID staffs that advise and assist us with research and data. The ECU Bookstore that has a wonderful ability to provide and order the items we need for programs. many times with short notice. All of our other external partners including Athletics, that allow us to put on the many programs and serve the ECU community. Finally, Kudos to an executive committee that was charged with keeping me straight and on track. They did a marvelous job. With their help and advice, we were able to make great strides in serving our community and constituents. Thanks to everyone for their service, trust and generosity. I also want to let you know that the Staff Senate is an integral part of the ECU Community. To what degree is determined by each of you. You can be a passenger on the train called ECU; or you can be actively involved in laying the tracks and supporting the effort to get to our destination. Your commitment to the ECU vision, goal and objectives will determine how the Staff Senate will be remember. It takes time, effort and dedication to serve the 3200 plus constituents. It will take you spending some portion of weekends, evenings and even lunch periods to get the business of the senate accomplished. Your time invested in ECU makes us a better and richer community in which to live and work. Finally I want to say I started out this job with a lot of enthusiasm and complete it with a higher level of optimism for you as Senators and ExOfficios.
