From the President Hello Friends, Here is an article I wrote for the AzFRW Convention book this month giving you an overview of our accomplishments the past two years. Arrowhead Republican Women Region VI What an incredible two years it has been for the Arrowhead Republican Women. With 2016 being an election year, Arrowhead Republican Women volunteered in numerous ways to support our local, state and national candidates. We hosted a Candidate s Forum in June of 2016 and had over 20 candidates speak to a room filled to capacity. And did it ever pay off with so many elected Republicans and, of course, winning the biggest prize of all - the Presidency of the United States! ARW featured many speakers with various backgrounds including State Treasurer, Jeff DeWit who gave us his insight into the intricacies of the Trump campaign. Other featured speakers included Alan Korwin, Gun Laws Expert; David Gowan, Az Speaker of the House; Bill Montgomery, Maricopa County Attorney; Keven Calabrese, ASU Young Republicans President; and our own Jan Hermsmeyer who did a wonderful Americanism program on Abigail Adams. For the first time, Arrowhead Republican Women and Central Republican Women of Phoenix had a combined meeting featuring James T. Harris. We had a fantastic turnout and the event was enjoyed by all. In the fall, we look forward to Chris Herring, Maricopa County Republican Chairman; Larry Schweikart who wrote the book How Trump Won; and Michelle Reagan, Secretary of State. Our fundraising activities also included a Fashion Show in March of 2016 featuring Dillard s clothing to a sold-out crowd - it was a wonderful success! In April of 2017, we had a Victory Celebration Picnic for all the Republican officials who won their elections. Our Caring For America projects included our ARW ladies who polished nails for residents of retirement homes. We collected teddy bears for cancer victims at Phoenix Children s Hospital. The hospital uses the bears to demonstrate where intravenous ports are to be placed on the children for their cancer treatment. Many of our members volunteered at the Arizona StandDown where socks were donated to homeless Vets. We also accepted donations for money and gift cards for Turkeys for Troops. We hosted a collection for America s Mighty Warriors and raised $500. Our membership remains strong. Each year we hosted a Membership Tea to encourage our members to invite a friend who may have interest in our club. In 2016, our speakers included Loraine Pellegrino, President of AzFRW, and Rae Chornenky, past President of NFRW. In 2017, we featured Nancy K. Arnold as Martha Washington.
We also continue to contribute funds to the Betty Rendel Scholarship, Kabis Memorial Internship, Mamie Eisenhower Library Project, ASU College Republicans, Laura Bush Scholarship, TARS and the Arizona Federation of College Republicans. We also contributed funds so that a young student could attend the TARS convention. I am so proud of our club and all we have accomplished in the past two years. I am honored to be involved with an amazing group of women. ********************************************* May you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and friends. We have so many blessings to be thankful for in this wonderful country. We offer a special thank you and our prayers to our military who have fought for our freedoms and continue to protect us. God bless each and every one of you. Arlene Goldblatt From the First Vice President - Programming It is with regret and disappointment that our November speaker, Secretary of State Michele Reagan is not able to come due to a scheduling conflict. She was asked to be at an event with Vice President Pence. Congratulations to the Secretary. However, I am excited to announce our speaker for the November meeting is Former Governor Jan Brewer! In addition, Governor Brewer will install our incoming officers for I know she will be an inspiration to all. Please get your reservations in ASAP. You won t want to miss this opportunity. Thank you, Governor Brewer, for honoring us, particularly with such short notice. Unfortunately for me, I won t be there-- (sob). I regret I will miss the chance to meet the former Governor. Our December program will be on Saturday, the 2 nd. Our program is dedicated to our troops deployed overseas who will not be home for the holidays. The holiday season is a difficult time for our troops and their families. I hope we can let them know we are thinking of them by sending Christmas/Holiday cards. Just address the envelope to America s Mighty Warriors, sign your name and Arrowhead Republican Women on the card. It s OK to include a personal note such as Thank you for your service. Bring your card(s) to the November AND December meetings. You don t need postage. We don t want to forget the families left behind who may be in need, so we are asking for cash (check) donations. You will see a decorated envelope on your table. The EC Committee will buy gift cards for one or two families. Thank you to Debbie Lee, President of America s Mighty Warriors, and ARW member for your help. Our keynote speaker, Alex Meluskey, is a syndicated radio show host. He is Chairman of Contract with American Veterans, giving back to America s veterans and their families. We are grateful for the important work he has done as State Director, FAIRTAX and his political activism. Once again, don t forget to bring Christmas cards and come with extra dollars to contribute for gift cards. God Bless our military and their families for the sacrifices they make every day to keep our country safe. Barbara Melkin

From the 3 rd Vice President Jan Martinson The End to Insurance Subsidy Payments The turmoil over the Trump administration s decision to end Obamacare subsidy payments to the insurance companies was one big fact: The payments are illegal. The Obama administration originally asked Congress to appropriate the funds as part of the Affordable Care Act, but no legislation ever made it through the House and Senate. In response, President Obama s Department of Health and Human Services unilaterally began disbursing the payments anyway. You remember that Pen & Phone thing. House Republicans sued arguing that the executive branch may not dole out money without congressional approval. In 2016, a federal judge issued a 38 page opinion ruling that Obama had exceeded his constitutional authority illegally funding the subsidies. The Obama administration went around Congress and the Constitution to impose its health care plan any way. President Trump has decided to end these illegal hand-outs, saving us tax payer s lots of money. We will see what happens next. Keeping you in the know. From the Region VII Director Carol Jones This will be my final note to you as your Region Director, and I want to express thanks to each of you for the support you have provided as I served in that capacity. As a Club, you have been very helpful and supportive. You did all the things that a vibrant and successful Club must do. Congratulations! The Club continues to grow and is functioning well. You win awards and you PARTICIPATE. You are well represented at State Meetings and at all things Republican! I am proud of you as a Club, and proud of the many individuals within the Club that help to make it great. My thanks especially for the way you have welcomed me. I ask that you continue that support for your new Region Director and to your new ARW Club officers. I look forward to continuing friendship and support within the Club.

AzFRW Convention Friends & Installation of new AzFRW officers with NFRW President Carrie Almond - what a great weekend!
Support the women who support you Donate Today! Dear Patriot: The NFRW prides itself in not constantly asking for donations. As activists, we know that your inbox is full of requests from candidates and the Republican Party. Today, however, I am making a special appeal. You see, we have fallen short on our fundraising goals for the year. Will you help with a contribution of $50 or more to the NFRW - or a donation of $20.17 to help us finish strong? We still have a lot of work to do this year! We've got Campaign Management schools scheduled and key Governors races in Virginia and New Jersey. We need to put together a Strike Force for Judge Roy Moore in Alabama while continuing to educate Republicans on the need for Human Trafficking legislation. We simply cannot do it without your support. If you don't feel the call to donate to the NFRW, I urge you to reconsider. Our members were responsible for over 5 million campaign volunteer hours in this biennium- that's over 50 million dollars of time calculated at $10 an hour. We are the most powerful women's political organization in the country, but we can't "Make America Great Again" on dues alone. Please donate today by clicking here - Your contribution will allow us to continue our mission of educating women in the cause of good government!! I am so grateful for your continued support. Thank you! President Carrie
ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS Each one of you has contributed hours, on a volunteer basis, to our Republican cause. Attached is a simple tally sheet where you can write in those hours, starting from July 2015 through June 2017 (you can estimate for April, May and June). We know it s often difficult to go back to the past, but just try to recall events you ve supported, committees you ve worked on, etc. and approximate when they occurred. Do the best you can! These are the types of hours you can include in the ARW, AzFRW and NFRW columns: Committee work (hours in meetings, preparing for meetings, doing committee projects, etc.); Attendance at State or National Federation meetings or conventions (include travel, portal to portal) Volunteering at any Republican or Federation headquarters (local, county, State, National) Preparing an article for the Newsletter, or an e-blast Participation in any forum sponsored by the Federation or the Republican Party Many of you worked directly in support of electing Republicans to local, State and Federal offices during the past two years. All of those hours should be entered in the AzGOP, Precinct/Ward and Campaign columns. Again, just do your best to determine where your hours go. They will all roll up to the higher level Campaign Awards tally. Examples of these hours are: Non-Paid campaign activities (like volunteering for a candidate, getting petitions signed Work done at home on mailings, making posters, making phone calls, computer work etc. Time in session (and travel portal to portal) at Arizona Republican Party Convention, Maricopa County Statutory Meeting, and Republican National Committee Convention Time spent as a Precinct Committeeman and/or Precinct Captain Working as a non-paid poll watcher on Election Day Use the Community column for hours spent supporting activities like Caring for America committees and projects. Please use the attached form. A handwritten submittal is all that is required. If you have ANY questions, please call Susan Sagahon at (480) or her at sadie01ca@yahoo.com.
