Sabbioni, ISAC, CNR (Itay) Brusses,24 March 2011 Added-vaue, benefits and impact Economic impact European cutura heritage is of exceptiona economic importance for the tourism industry, generating an estimated annua revenue of EUR 335 biion, and many of the 9 miion jobs in the tourism sector are inked to it directy or indirecty. EU Tourism industry generates 4% of EU GDP and indirecty the 11% EU GDP. The market for conservation of this heritage is estimated at some EUR 5 biion per year. This JP contributes to European competitiveness: EU can export in the word added vaue
4 JPI Cutura Heritage and Goba Change Added-vaue, benefits and impact Environmenta impact The benefits of re-use as embodied by cutura heritage are numerous: re-use of cutura heritage ocks in more carbon and embodied energy. Historic buidings were designed with origina ow impact on the environment and they continue to have a ow impact by using surpus materias for the re-manufacture of buidings, fixtures, fittings etc. Socia and cutura impact The cutura heritage of the European Union is the memory of its society: essentia to a shared European identification. 9 JPI Cutura Heritage and Goba Change Engagement and poitica commitment The engagement and poitica commitment of Member States and Associated Countries to the JPI CH was provided since the beginning of 2010 through: - The participation to JPI CH meetings. - To the adhesion to JPI CH sending the officia nominations of the nationa representative to the JPI governing bodies. - The ogistic for JPI Coordination was provided by the Itaian Ministry of Cutura Heritage and Activities and by the Itaian Ministry of Education, University and Research - The participating MS and AC supported traveing and accommodation costs of their own representatives as Partners and Observers. Sabbioni, ISAC, CNR (Itay) Brusses,24 March 2011 Nationa existing toos and resources Actions at Member States and Associated Countries eve In NET-HERITAGE an overview of existing research nationa programmes reating to cutura heritage in the EU and Associated Countries is being obtained. Some 41 funding mechanisms have been reported by NET-HERITAGE, and 13 key research programmes in 10 countries (BG, DE, FR, IT, MT, PL, RO, SI, ES and UK) have been identified. Three of those focus mainy on cutura heritage (BG, FR, UK) and seven incude the topic in wider research programmes (DE, IT, MT, PL, RO, SI and ES). Some other countries not invoved in the NET-HERITAGE project aso have programmes where cutura heritage research is mentioned or embedded in broader programmes (AT, CY, CZ, DK, EL, LT, NL)
