1 Social Studies 7 Ch 5 Study Guide KEY /58 NAME Put the following vocabulary definitions in your own words /15 Anglophones- Any person that English is their first language and they live in an area that it is not the first language spoken. Treaty of Paris The peace treaty between the English and the French. The French gave up all rights to New France. In exchange they received St. Pierre, Miquelon and Guadelupe. Superpower- A country that has considerable more power than any other nation. For example USA. Great Deportation-In 1755 Governor Lawrence gave the order that either the Acadians swear allegiance and become citizens of England Or they must leave Acadia. They could bring their money And household possessions but had to leave everything else. Only 150 people out of people stayed. 1/3 of the people died on the way to their new settlement. Bias- A personal like or dislike of something or someone that is not based on fact. Bilingual- Being able to speak two languages. Francophone- Any person that French is their first language and they live in an area that it is not the first language spoken. Assimilate- To require a person or a group of people to leave their own culture, language and religion from their home country and adopt the culture, language and religion of their new country. Accommodate- Quebec Act To allow a person or group of people that you have conquered to keep their own culture, religion and language as long as will stay peacefully on your land. - The law that was passed in 1774 to move Quebec from assimilation towards accommodation. Eviction- to remove forcibly from land.

Guadelupe- The sugar producing Carribean island given to France in exchange for land in New France according to the Paris peace treaty. Fact- Opinion- Information everyone accepts as truth. Britain had three choices of what to do with the colony of Quebec. 1. Eviction 2. Assimilation 3. Accommodation 4. Which of these choices did they choose?
