2 Welcome Dear Colleague: We are delighted to invite you to attend the 2013 Consumer Protection Conference. Now that the 2012 election results are in, this one day conference will focus on the future of consumer protection law, and is a must attend event for enforcers and practitioners. Our speakers include representatives from the FTC, Theodore Voorhees, Jr. State Attorneys General Offices, CFPB, scholars, industry, consumer advocates, and other professionals in consumer protection and privacy. The conference will focus on: consumer protection priorities; the evolution of US and EU privacy law enforcement; hot topics in advertising including the trend toward Kevin J. O Connor third party liability ; new rules for consumer financial services marketing practices; and a provocative panel on whether the new social media and mobile device worlds are evolving too rapidly for effective regulation. This setting also provides attendees the opportunity to network with these experts in a hospitable environment, Lydia B. Parnes and a forum for colleagues in the consumer protection bar to meet and exchange ideas. We hope that you will find the right individuals in your organization to attend this special program. 6 B. Confirmations Confirmations will be sent electronically within one day of online registration. Please bring the confirmation with you to the conference. C. Cancellations In the event of cancellation, a refund of the registration fee, less a $50.00 administrative fee, will be granted only for written requests received by Patricia Harris (at-registrar@americanbar.org) by 5:00 pm CST, on January 17. There will be no refunds after this date. Please allow four to six weeks after the conference for the processing of any refunds. The ABA reserves the right to cancel any conference or portion thereof and assumes no responsibility for personal expenses. D. Substitutions Written requests for substitutions will be permitted prior to the conference for requests received by the conference registration cut-off. After this date, substitutions will need to be made on-site. There is no additional cost for substitutions. Substitutions are not permitted once a registrant has registered on-site or after the conference has occurred. Please submit a request on firm letterhead to transfer the registration to another person. Only the substitute will be eligible for CLE credit. The substitute and original registrant must work out the payment between themselves. E. Course Materials Course materials for each session will be compiled on a USB drive and distributed at the conference. G. Registrants who have not received an electronic confirmation will need to go to the on-site ABA Registration Desk during the registration hours posted in the agenda. H. Roster of Participants A roster of conference participants is available on the conference website and updated on a weekly basis. Participants must be registered to be listed. I. Tape Recording No audio recording or videotaping of any part of the conference will be permitted. conference information J. Registrant/Attendee Image and Voice Agreement Registration for, attendance at or participation in the 2012 Consumer Protection Conference and other associated activities constitutes an agreement by the registrant to permit the American Bar Association to use and distribute (both now and in the future) the registrant or attendee s image or voice in photographs, videotapes, electronic reproductions, audiotapes of such events and activities. K. CLE Please note: each state has its own rules and regulations, including its definition of CLE as well as Ethics. Therefore, certain sessions may not receive CLE credit in some states. Please check with your state provider for confirmation of general as well as ethics approval for any conference. A Uniform Certificate of Attendance will be available for all attendees on a USB flash drive. The total number of credit hours approved will be available online two weeks prior to the conference. ALL ATTENDEES: Sign-in for CLE; the majority of attendees only need do this once for the entire conference. DE and NY attendees are required by their states to sign in and out of each session. The forms for DE and NY will be located in the back of each session room.
