1 Health Law 2015 Health Law Section Annual Meeting LIVE and WEBCAST PROGRAM Thursday, April 23, 2015 NC Bar Center Cary CLE Credit: 6.0 Hours Plus 1 Video Replay The health care industry continues to face increasing challenges and to evolve rapidly. Health care providers, payors and others involved in the delivery of health care services and items must adapt in order to thrive and turn these challenges into opportunities. As a result, attorneys for health care clients need new approaches and solutions to the regulatory and business needs of health care providers and payors. This program is designed to provide insights into some emerging issues, including new delivery methods such as telemedicine, new risk such as disaster preparedness and new burdens such as the FTC s involvement in the privacy efforts of health care providers, as our speakers share their experiences and ideas. This program s materials are 100% Paperless Planned by the NCBA Health Law NCBAorg

Johnson and Shenton In January of this year, President Obama became the first U.S. President since Franklin Roosevelt to visit the FTC. He used that setting as a platform to highlight a broad range of initiatives including enhanced privacy and security protections. His choice of the FTC as the platform and context for this announcement is no coincidence; the FTC s involvement in data privacy and security issues is simply another facet of its broad regulatory powers. This presentation provides some brief historic context on the FTC s regulatory history, traces the evolution and development of its increasingly broad and detailed involvement in the area of consumer privacy and
