APPROVAL OF MINUTES a) Minutes of February 23, 2016 IT WAS MOVED BY MARSHALL, SECONDED BY PEREIRA, TO: Approve the minutes as presented. MOTION CARRIED, 4-0. b) Minutes of March 22, 2016 IT WAS MOVED BY MARSHALL, SECONDED BY PEREIRA, TO: Approve the minutes as presented. MOTION CARRIED, 4-0. AUDIENCE COMMENTS - None. REPORTS a) Interview Panel - New Board Members: Chair Dukes presented the new Library Board members, whose terms begin May 1, 2016, as recommended by the Interview Panel, appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council: Susan Marshall, Regular member, Term expiring 2020 Satyajit Ranganathan, Alternate, Term expiring 2018 Shannon Heiberg, Alternate, Term expiring 2017 Page 3 of 8

4 APPROVAL OF MINUTES a) Library Board Minutes Page 2 Satyajit and Shannon introduced themselves and were welcomed by the board. Tisha Gieser, Staff Liaison, summarized the board member selection process. b) King County Library System (KCLS): Michele Drovdahl presented the KCLS Stories 2015 publication and emphasized the East Cluster's predominant role in the book. Michele relayed that circulation and visits were down in April, but downloads were up system wide. The Downtown Issaquah Wine Walk was a popular event, bringing over 450 visitors to the Library in April. c) KCLS Board of Trustees: Susan Marshall, the March KCLS Board attendee, reported that the meeting was held in the newly opened Fairwood Library. The meeting included an update on new library facilities in Renton and Skyway. The KCLS Stories publication was also discussed as well as plans to compile images of artwork throughout the library system for a coffee table book. d) Friends of Issaquah Library (FOIL): Susan Marshall referenced the FOIL newsletter which was ed to all board members, highlighting recent library programming and the partnership with the Food Bank. Susan reminded the board that the FOIL Book Sale would be occurring April FOIL hopes to increase support of Tween programming with funds raised. e) City of Issaquah: Tisha Gieser, Staff Liaison, reported that Mayor Butler had recently experienced a heart attack, but was recovering well. Tisha added that the Traffic Task Force recently announced their recommendations and more information and opportunities for input would be provided in the coming months. Lastly, Tisha highlighted the robust number of applicants for open seats on the City's Boards and Commissions; the appointments were made in April. REGULAR BUSINESS a) KCLS Website Discovery Homework Board members Joyce, Susan, Steve, and Cynthia shared their discoveries on the KCLS website including booklists, poetry events, language resources, and the extensive catalog. b) KCLS Online Library Services Jessica Gomes of KCLS Online Services gave a presentation on KCLS online services. Jessica explained that there are 50 individuals who feed content into the KCLS website, which had 42 million visits in Jessica provided a demonstration of the new website, which will be officially launched on May 3. A few of the features are: A "Recent News" section for local libraries, including titles newly added at the library The ability to subscribe to the RSS feed of a specific library E-newsletter subscription options More robust local library pages More robust calendaring feature Jessica also shared that e-book platform OverDrive would soon be launched by KCLS. The board expressed interest in receiving a presentation on OverDrive at a future meeting. Jessica encouraged the board to use the new website and provide any feedback to the online services staff. 5 APPROVAL OF MINUTES a) Library Board Minutes Page 3 c) Progress Update Regarding Goal 1 Tasks Jennifer Wiseman, KCLS Project Manager, asked to table this item to the next meeting at which time she would provide topic updates and facilitate discussion on goal follow-thru. The board agreed to table the item. OTHER BUSINESS / ANNOUNCEMENTS Thank You Staff Liaison Tisha Gieser thanked outgoing Board Alternate Steve Pereira for his service and presented him with a Certificate of Appreciation signed by Mayor Butler. 7 Issaquah Library Advisory Board REGULAR BUSINESS b) 2016 Goals GOAL 1 Raise awareness in the community about what the library offers. Achieved by: Developing a list of venues through which to communicate, both in print and electronically (e.g. neighborhood newsletters, Issaquah Press, Next Door social network), as well as in person (e.g. farmers markets, fairs, community events). Creating a schedule of topics for which content will be gathered (with help from KCLS staff) and distributed (by advisory board members) to identified venues based on the target audience(s). Specific Tasks Frequency/ Deadline Assigned To Identify list of Did you know topics to be distributed by all. 3/22/16 Group Explore publishing library info in IHCA Connections Newsletter. Talk to IHCA about Library Blakely Hall 2/23 Update: IHCA is willing to promote KCLS programming through their Facebook and through monthly articles. Work with City of Issaquah s communications team re: promotion of library information via Twitter/Facebook 2/23 Update: The City s communication team is willing to promote content via Twitter, Facebook, Webpage, Issaquah Insider and the City Calendar if the Advisory Board feeds it to them. They also suggested tying the content to special days. Cross link library information on Talus new community website Explore publishing in Talus online newsletter Explore distribution of information and/or having a library/library board presence at school events. Identify connections for publishing library info in PTSA newsletters 2/23 Update: Suggestion to be present at the Issaquah School Foundation luncheon and the schools cultural fairs. Identify ways to promote library information through church networks Provide Advisory Board with list of 2016 community events Provide Advisory Board with list of scheduled KCLS outreach visits Explore publishing library info in Issaquah Press and Issaquah Reporter newspapers, as well as the Next Door networks.
