New Business A) Planning for 2015 Accessibility Workshop An update on the Agenda, registration form, budget, evaluation form and promotional information will be provided at the meeting. Committee members will be asked to advise which session(s) they wish to moderate. A) International Day of Persons with Disabilities Thursday, December 3rd, 2015 United Nations' (UN) International Day of Persons with Disabilities is annually held on December 3 to focus on issues that affect people with disabilities worldwide. International Day of Persons with Disabilities re-affirms and draws attention to the rights of people who live with disabilities.

3 Essex County Accessibility Advisory Committee Agenda Page 3 August 27, 2015 People from many countries worldwide participate in various ways to promote the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. If the Committee wishes to provide an annual report and update to County Council, that could be scheduled for the December 2nd, 2015 meeting of County Council, in conjunction with an activity or presentation in recognition of International Persons with Disabilities Day. It doesn t appear that the theme for the 2015 International Day of Persons with Disabilities has been established yet. 10. Reports and Questions A) Essex County Accessibility Advisory Committee Newsletter The Final AAC YAK newsletter was released to all subscribers of the Essex County Accessibility enewsletter, posted on the County of Essex website, ed to all local municipalities and copies provided to all branches of the Essex County Library.

6 Page 3 of 8 7. Reports and Questions (Continued ) It was agreed that another would be sent out regarding the newsletter and the workshop at the beginning of September. B) Planning for 2015 Accessibility Workshop The Committee considered Report #2015-R003-AAC MB providing an update on plans for the 2015 Accessibility Workshop to date. (1) Budget Mrs. Brennan advised that the Heritage Park Alliance Church has been confirmed and a deposit cheque has been sent to secure the hall rental. The Committee reviewed the draft budget for the Workshop. It was noted that last year the registration fee was $35.00/person. It was estimated that total revenue would be $9, with total expenses being approximately $9, for a total surplus of $ With regards to the speakers and the fees they would be charging, Mrs. Lecuyer stated that she would send Mrs. Brennan Jen Darmon s contact information to determine if she will be charging a speaker s fee. Mr. Boyko advised that he had been informed that a gentleman who regularly attends the workshop had requested that a lift be provided for the washroom. It was suggested that a company such as Motion Specialties or Maxim would be able to supply a rental lift for the day along with the harness. Mr. Boyko stated that he would look into this matter. He noted that he would also mention to the company that provides the lift that they may wish to have a booth at the Information Fair.

7 Page 4 of 8 7. Reports and Questions (Continued ) (2) Menu for the Workshop It was noted that $2,500 had been set aside for catering the Workshop. After reviewing the menus from Carmen s Catering, Colasanti s and Just Jefs, it was agreed that Just Jefs would be asked to provide the following menu for the luncheon at the 2015 Accessibility Workshop: Office Luncheon: ($14.75 per person) Strawberry Salad, Grilled Sunflower Seed Bread and Olive Tapenade, Chicken Breast Parmesan, Pasta a la Olio, Cinnamon Crisps. Ms. Alexander suggested that Western Secondary School culinary program be contacted to see if they would be interested in providing fruit platters for the breaks in the morning and the afternoon. Ms. Florence stated that she would look into the fruit platters. Another suggestion was Costco for muffins, etc. It was also suggested that the Hall be contacted to determine if their coffee maker could be used that day. Water, coffee, cream, sugar, and juice would also need to be purchased. C) National Access Awareness Week - June 1 to June 7, 2015 (1) Wheelchair Basketball Game Mrs. Brennan showed pictures of the wheelchair basketball game and all agreed, that it went very well. It was suggested that next year, they be asked if music could only be played during the half-time period. In addition, the school would be asked if they would be interested in providing a lunch for those councillors who participate in the game next year.

Reports and Questions (Continued ) (2) Delegation at County Council for National Access Awareness Week It was noted that great media coverage on the delegation from the Committee for National Access Awareness Week had been provided and that the comments provided by Christine Easterbrook on businesses not meeting accessibility standards had been mentioned. (3) AODA 10th Anniversary Champion Award Mrs. Brennan noted that in order to celebrate the AODA 10th Anniversary, the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario (AMCTO), with the support of the Government of Ontario, was launching a one-time award the AODA 10th Anniversary Champion Award. This award recognizes outstanding individuals who demonstrate leadership, passion and commitment in the promotion of awareness of accessibility and inclusiveness in their community. She noted that nominations would be accepted until 4:00 p.m. on June 30, Committee members had been asked to bring forward names of any individuals they might want to nominate as a Committee Moved by Ms. Alexander Seconded by Mrs. Lecuyer That Ms. Michelle Jones Rousseau be nominated by the Essex County Accessibility Advisory Committee for the AODA 10th Anniversary Champion Award. Carried Mrs. Brennan advised that she would download the form and send the nomination to the AODA.

9 Page 6 of 8 8. Unfinished Business 9. New Business A) Civic Centre Renovations Mrs. Brennan asked for comments on the new elevator and renovated washrooms on the main level (closest to elevator). She noted that renovations to the front entrance of the building were ongoing. (1) Washrooms The following comments were made regarding the men s washroom: Mr. Boyko suggested that a scald guard be installed in front of the piping under the sink. Rounded countertop should have been installed instead of a square edge so there was less chance of getting snagged. The location of the urinal was too close to the accessible washroom and when someone opens the door they could get hit. Accessible stall should have been located in the centre instead of at the end so there would be more room Would have made 2 accessible stalls to 2 regular stalls or made them all accessible stalls. The following comments were made regarding the women s washroom: The soap dispenser that was located on the wall between the mirrors can t be reached by someone sitting.

10 Page 7 of 8 9. New Business (Continued ) (2) Elevator Toilet paper holder in accessible stall was installed too far forward for people with shorter arms to reach. Air dryers could have been a little lower however, the dispenser for paper towels can be reached by someone in a wheelchair if not blocked by the garbage can. The garbage can needed to be moved to a different location. Bars in accessible stall were hard to lift and pull down for anyone with limited arm strength. Some designs have bars that just pull down, rather than lifting up first. No toilet paper on roll located on bars in accessible stall. Should have used collapsible hooks (safety feature used in school washrooms). Liked that there were no doors to access the washroom The committee liked that the buttons for operating the elevator were located farther down than before. They suggested that an elevator that announced the floor numbers would have been more accessible. B) Summer Meeting Schedule Mrs. Brennan advised that generally, only one ECAAC meeting is held during the summer months. It was agreed that the next meeting would be held on August 13, 2015.
