Excused: Intramurals Coordinator Dalton Belcourt, Senator Dennara Gaub, Vice-President Kelsie Field Unexcused: Agenda Topic Discussion Responsible Party(ies) Call to Order/ Roll Call Approval of Minutes Amendments & Agenda Changes Student Concerns & Comments Guest Speakers The meeting was called to order at 6:03 p.m. Roll call was taken. made a motion to approve. seconded. Jimmy Zhen added as guest speaker for Wrestling Club. Senator Sarrazin expressed concern regarding the unwarranted removal of club signs and posters. Several clubs have said that their posters have been removed and thrown away despite being hung in correct places. Senator Sarrazin asked about the process for reserving SUB. Senator Galhouse stated that she felt voting hours should have been extended to accommodate students who are unable to vote until after 5 p.m. noted that he felt the online voting program seemed confusing. acknowledged that there were some glitches with Survey Monkey and noted that efforts to make voting process smoother will be emphasized in future elections. Financial Literacy Coordinator Barb Julian Barb Julian talked about new FAFSA deadlines and changes for this year. Major changes include availability of FAFSA on October 1, priority deadline of December 1, and taxes from 2 years prior will be used. October is FAFSA month on campus. 2 Position Reports be held two times per week on campus during October. Students completing their FAFSA by the Dec. 1 priority deadline will be eligible for a $25.00 Gift Card to the Bookstore courtesy of ASUMW. Jimmy Zhen of Wrestling Club Reported on Chris Hight Memorial Powerlifting Competition. Noted that club is working on paying off debt. Noted that tournament season will start in November. Club is planning to host a self-defense seminar. Mandy Maass of Southwest Montana Arts Council Explained roll of SWMAC. Goal is to collaborate with UMW to bring arts to the campus community. Requested funding for UMW students for season. Request for funding moved to new business. President Delaney asked for senate volunteers to help serve wine and chocolate prior to play on October 7. Reported that she will be attending a fiscal seminar for MUS next week. Reported that MAS is continuing to work on a resolution for legislative priorities. Noted that the marquee is now working. Reminded senators to complete their office hours. Vice-President Kelsie Field reported in Kelsie s absence. Club allocations list provided to all senators. Noted that there will be rewards/incentives for clubs that participate in Homecoming. Noted that approximately $6,000 has been recovered from inactive club accounts. Reported participation in a video conference with for app based TapRide. Reminded senators to help with Homecoming events for office hours. Festival of Trees. Asked for volunteers to help make a wreath for the community service based event. Committee will be Shayla McGregor, Destany Fields, Samantha Hubbard, Tia Seymanski, and Kacee Williams. Senate Christmas Party. Senate decided on December 16 for date. Party will be held at the Old Hotel in Twin Bridges. Intramurals Coordinator Dalton Belcourt Delaney reported in Dalton s absence. Midnight Hoops has started. Badminton League is being planned. Activities Coordinator Tia Seymanski Homecoming events are being planned. Events scheduled to date include poster making on Monday, BBQ & Pep Rally on Wednesday, UMW Spirit Competition on Friday, ASUMW Tailgate on Saturday, Homecoming Royalty on Saturday. T-Shirts and cowbells have also been ordered as well as campus decorations. Asked for volunteers for a Homecoming Sub-Committee. Committee will be Kacee Williams, Jessica Partner and Kade Patton. 4 Committee Reports ASUMW Sub- Committee Reports Unfinished Business New Business Shayla McGregor Reported on Safety and Security Committee. Fire Drills will be conducted campus wide on Thursday, October 6. staff and faculty will have a meeting on safety and lockdown protocol. Reported on progress with Giant Campus Checkerboard and Mathews Hall Lobby Furniture. Committees have met and are making plans. Sarrazin reported on Parking Committee. Noted that sub-committee is working on their established goals. ASUMW Goal Assignments Senators reminded to work on goal assignments and set meeting dates. Basketball Hoops reported that AD Russell Richardson has asked for financial support to purchase new hoops for the Keltz arena. 5 Financial Committee Keltz Arena Hoop Prior motion: moved to allocate $5, for the Keltz Arena Hoop fund provided that the money goes to the cost of the hoop unless an outside donor pays for the whole amount. seconded. Motion passed with 13-1 Roll Call Vote. Southwest Montana Art Council Funding Senator Hogan moved to allocate up to $3,000 for SWMAC on a ticket by ticket basis. seconded. Motion passed with 14-0 Roll Call Vote. Recognition of Accomplishment ASUMW recognized the UMW Rodeo Team for their hard work and accomplishments over the weekend. Announcements reminded senate that the school plays start this week. Group picture with new senators will be taken upstairs in game room after adjournment.
