3 WELCOME NEW MEMBERS Northern Ohio Golf Association Charities & Foundation Frank Rihtar One Golfview Lane North Olmsted, OH Platinum Protection Insurance Agency (PPIA) Thaer (TJ) Jaber Sweetbriar Dr. North Olmsted, OH Professional Travel, Inc. Rob Turk Country Club Blvd., #170 North Olmsted, OH LEGISLATIVE UPDATE (by: Jim Burns, Legislation Committee Chairperson) As of January 7, 2014 PAGE 3 There was one business related ordinance on Council s current agenda. The sidewalk repair ordinance is still pending. Sidewalk repairs would include the leveling of existing sidewalks where a slab extends above the slab next to it. If the property owner does not do the requested repairs, the city will do the repair using city funds and have the amount spent placed on your property tax bill. One question is what about sidewalk problems caused by city owned systems such as sewer lines. Some council members want non-compliers taken to court. This ordinance seems to have little support. Substitute House Bill 5 (SHB5) was passed by the state house of representatives. The state senate will address this bill early SHB5 is an attempt at reforming municipal income tax law. The major changes within this bill would create a single definition as to what is income and what isn t, it would exempt your business and your employees from workplace tax in an city other than your home office if you work in that city less than 21 days and it would permit the carry forward of net operating losses for all taxing districts. This is a tough issue and I don t believe there is an easy fix. You might want to contact your state senator and show your support for this bill. Representative Nan Baker voted yes on the bill. To obtain a copy of an ordinance that may interest you, contact Jim Burns at burnscpa@ohiocpa.net or or call the Clerk of Council at The Rail Rick Hershey 4954 Great Northern Blvd. North Olmsted, OH T3 Performance Mike D Andrea 1200 Chester Industrial Parkway Avon, OH
