1 May 22, 2017 REGULAR SESSION The Board of Education of Plainfield Community Consolidated School District No. 202, Counties of Will and Kendall, State of Illinois, met in regular session at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 22, 2017, at the Administration Center, Howard Street, Plainfield, IL. CALL TO ORDER President Nichols called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. and the following Board members answered roll call: Mrs. Drake, Mr. Kirberg, Mr. Koch, Mr. Robey, Mr. Smith, Mr. Westfall and Mr. Nichols. Also present were Lane Abrell, Mina Griffith, Anthony Manville, Rick Engstrom, Glenn Wood, Tom Hernandez, and Angie Van. ADJOURN TO CLOSED SESSION A motion was made by Mr. Nichols and seconded by Mr. Kirberg to adjourn to closed session at 6:30 p.m. for the purpose of discussing Personnel: the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the school district to determine its validity; Collective Negotiations: Collective negotiating matters between the public body and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. Pending Litigation: an action against, affecting, or on behalf of the school district has been filed and is pending before a court or administrative tribunal, or the school district finds that an action is probable or imminent; consider a matter pertaining to an individual student; and student discipline. Upon roll call vote, the following members voted aye: Mrs. Drake, Mr. Kirberg, Mr. Koch, Mr. Robey, Mr. Smith, Mr. Westfall and Mr. Nichols. Motion RETURN TO REGULAR SESSION A motion was made by Mr. Kirberg and seconded by Mr. Koch to return to regular session at 7:25 p.m. Upon roll call vote, the following members voted aye: Mrs. Drake, RECONVENE President Nichols reconvened the meeting at 7:44 p.m. and the following Board members answered roll call: Mrs. Drake, Mr. Kirberg, Mr. Koch, Mr. Robey, Mr. Smith, Mr. Westfall and Mr. Nichols. BOARD PRESIDENT S COMMENTS President Nichols congratulated the 8 th graders who will be promoted to high school this week. He also congratulated the four high school principals and their staff for excellent commencement ceremonies. Work will begin this week on the stadium renovation/artificial turf installation projects at Plainfield East High School and Plainfield North High school. The work progress will be tracked online by the Community Relations Department. President Nichols thanked students, staff and families for another excellent school year and reminded everyone that school resumes on August 18, BOARD SALUTES Mr. Westfall saluted the four high school principals; Facilities Director, Paul Gonzalez; and his staff for the commencement ceremonies. Mr. Westfall also saluted Plainfield High School Central Campus parent, Jeff Prah, who helped activate the video board at the Plainfield South High School graduation ceremony. SPECIAL RECOGNITION President Nichols recognized and congratulated Lota Onua, senior at Plainfield East High School for winning second place in the triple jump at the state girl s track meet; Zack Cienkus, junior at Plainfield North High School for winning third place in the state gymnastics meet in the rings event; and Mattie Levy, junior at Plainfield East High School for achieving the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouting. QUESTIONS AND/OR COMMENTS None. CONSENT AGENDA Dr. Abrell reviewed the Consent Agenda items. Following due consideration, a motion was made by Mr. Nichols to approve the following Consent Agenda items: Field Trip As recommended by the Administration, approve field trip for Plainfield East High School Choir to Sandusky, Ohio on June 2, 2017 through June 4, /22/17

Administrator recommendations will continue to be approved by the Board of Education. Administration had already said no. The President of the Homeowner s Association came to the May 17 th Board Meeting and explained what their goal was. The Site/Finance Committee agrees with Administration that this is not something we want to allow them to do. Dr. Abrell commended Mr. Koch for the research he did on this project. Curriculum and Technology Committee Curriculum and Technology Committee Chair Kevin Kirberg discussed the meeting (see attached meeting agenda). Approve Updated High School English Novel List for English Language Arts Courses As recommended by the Administration and the Curriculum and Technology Committee, a motion was made by Mr. Kirberg and seconded by Mrs. Drake to approve updated High School English Novel List for English Language Arts courses.
