LOUISBURG, KANSAS MINUTES (Unofficial Until Board Approved) REGULAR MEETING October 12, :00 PM The Regular meeting of the Board of Education, Unified School District #416, Miami County, Kansas was held Monday, October 12, 2009 in the Unified School District Board Room at 7:00 PM. Jim Vallacqua seconded the motion. Motion passed Good News 3.1 Dr. Zoellner and Jimmy Allen congratulated and presented certificates of achievement, from the Kansas State Department of Education, to Dustin Gorman, Seth Herron, Brandon Shannon, and Aaron Luckianow, students from Peoria Street Learning Center. Paul Kircher was presented a Boardmanship award from KASB by Superintendent Zoellner. 4.0 Patrons Forum There were no patrons who wished to address the board. 5.0 Action Items 5.1 Dr. Zoellner and the Board of Education reviewed Policies from Sections B & C. Connie Ewy seconded the motion. Motion passed 7-0. CYA Delete as Duplicate Paul Kircher moved and John Cleek seconded a motion to approve all of the items in Section C of the Board Policy manual with changes to the above items. Motion carried Discussion Items 1.1 Calendar Committee Update Discussed calendar for next school year including the state required number of hours of instruction. 1.2 Budget Update Dr. Zoellner explained the impact of state reduction of funds on the USD 416 budget, At Risk, new facilities weighting and possible further cuts to the BSAPP. 1.3 Legislative Platform It was determined that the Board does not wish to adopt a formal platform. Members monitor events and share important issues at meetings. 1.4 Schools for Fair Funding Superintendent Zoellner attended a meeting to discuss the possibility of districts filing suit against the state. The Board decided not to commit to any financial involvement at this time. 1.5 The National School Board Association conference dates conflict with the April 12, 2010 regular Board meeting date. Paul Kircher made a motion to change the April 12, 2010 Board meeting date to April 5, 2010 beginning at 7:00 at Mission Belleview Road. Lou Davis seconded the motion.
