ERIC GARCETTI MAYOR April 4, 2016 Honorable Members of City Council of the City of Los Angeles c/o Office of the City Clerk 200 North Spring Street, Room 395 Los Angeles, CA SUBJECT: UNCLAIMED MONIES SEIZED INCIDENTAL TO ARREST TRUST FUND Dear Honorable Members: On December 16,2015, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) requested an escheatment of $961, from the Unclaimed Monies Seized Incidental to Arrest Trust Fund No (UMSIATF) to the City s General Fund. This money has remained unclaimed for three years and is therefore eligible for transfer in accordance with the notification requirements of the City of Los Angeles Administrative Code Section and current state law. BACKGROUND The State of California Government Code Section provides that any money remaining unclaimed in the City Treasury for three years or more may become the property of the City after publication of a notice, provided that within the specified period of time, no verified complaint seeking to recover all or a designated part of the money is filed in a court of competent jurisdiction. Attached herewith is LAPD s request to escheat monies from Fund No dated December 16, 2015, the Office of the City Clerk's proof of publication advertisements dated January 14, 2016 and the subsequent notice and publications executed on January These notices stated that on March 7, 2016, funds seized from July 14, 1995 through October 10, 2012 would become property of the City. As of the respective aforementioned dates, one claim has been processed in the amount of $2, Therefore, the amount available for escheatment is $959, Per the City Council s instructions pursuant to Council File No S1, the Office of Finance has reviewed the escheatment eligibility and publication notices. INSTRUCT the Los Angeles Police Department and the City Treasurer to process the sum of $959, from the Unclaimed Monies Seized Incidental to Arrest Trust Fund, Fund No (UMSIATF); and 2.
