I ssio ERIC GARCETTI MAYOR July 8,2015 Honorable Members of City Council of the City of Los Angeles c/o Office of the City Clerk 200 North Spring Street, Room 395 Los Angeles, CA SUBJECT: UNCLAIMED CHECKS - STREET IMPROVEMENT BOND ACCOUNT Honorable Members: It is requested that the City Council authorize the transfer of $58, from the Street Improvement Bond Account to the City s General Fund pursuant to the eligibility requirements delineated in the California Government Code and the Los Angeles Administrative Code. Background The Office of Finance issued checks to various payees, including property owners and to bondholders from the Street Improvement Bond Account in the year 2000 to The checks remain uncashed and the funds therefore remain in the City Treasury. California Government Code Section provides that any money remaining unclaimed in the City Treasury for three years or more may become the property of the City after publication of a notice, provided that within the specified period of time, no claims seeking to recover said funds have been filed. Furthermore, the California Government Code also provides that if such money becomes the property of the City agency, the legislative body may transfer said funds to the General Fund. Additionally, Los Angeles Administrative Code Section gives the City Treasurer the authority to transfer unclaimed bond funds to the City s General Fund as well. Attached please find proof of Notification dated May 5,2015 that was published on May 21,2015 and May 28,2015, in various publications stating that 45 days after the publication date, said funds would become the property of the City of Los Angeles. INSTRUCT the City Treasurer to process the sum of $58, from the Street Improvement Bond Account and; 2.
