There, you can find information on the College Democrats of America, Gen44, DNC Youth Council activities and members, and our brand new youth blog. Take a moment to check it out at: DNC Chairman Tim Kaine s Statement on the Passing of Senator Robert Byrd Washington, DC DNC Chairman Tim Kaine issued the following statement on the passing of Senator Robert Byrd, an advocate for West Virginia and the longest serving U.S. Senator in history: "Today, the American people lost an exceptional public servant. Senator Byrd will be missed not only in West Virginia, but also in homes and hearts across America. For more than five decades, Senator Byrd worked in Congress to help working families achieve the American Dream. He was first and foremost the advocate of those most in need - fighting for educational programs and legislation that would help renew opportunity in areas of the country where opportunities were often scarce. Throughout his career, he fought for his beliefs and his constituents while keeping a national and international perspective. He prided himself on his knowledge of our Constitution and its principles. "In addition to being a national leader, Senator Byrd was also a Democratic leader and a strong voice for the party. In numerous leadership positions over the years, he fought to advance Democratic principles. As his career progressed, he wielded the powers of Congress to defend the rights and advance the interests of Americans seeking opportunity and justice. And as the longest serving U.S. Senator in history, Senator Byrd s legacy will long reverberate through the Senate. "Leaders like Senator Byrd don t come along often. On behalf of the Democratic Party, my heart goes out to Senator Byrd's family and friends and to all those who cherished him. He will be missed greatly in Washington, in West Virginia, and across America. The Top Four Cities for the 2012 Democratic National Convention! Four cities have been selected as finalists to host the 2012 Democratic National Convention: Charlotte, North Carolina; Cleveland, Ohio; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and St. Louis, Missouri. Many cities were eager for the opportunity to host the convention during the week of September 3, We're grateful to every city we have worked with throughout this process. We ll keep you updated throughout the convention selection process. A final decision will be made after the November elections.
4 Remembering Hon. Susan Burgess By Laura de Castro, Treasurer of the North Carolina Young Democrats Susan Burgess, a lifelong Democrat of humble origins that rose to become one of the most important leaders in North Carolina, passed away at her home this month. Burgess was born in West Virginia, and after her and her husband Patrick completed their professional training, he with a PhD and MD and she with a MA in Public Health, they settled in North Carolina with their four children. Susan soon became involved in the public schools at the height of the desegregation of the public school system in North Carolina. She was elected to the local School Board where she served two terms as Chair. In 1999 she won a City Council At-Large seat and was re-elected until her resignation one week before her death, serving as Mayor Pro-Tempore. While on the City Council, she fought for affordable housing, equal rights for partners of gay couples, a light rail system, and numerous causes for the underprivileged. As a member of the DNC she is credited with positioning the city of Charlotte as a prospective host for the Democratic National Convention in Always with a keen sense of humor, Susan Burgess was respected amongst her peers as well as her political opponents, all of whom admire her intellect and commitment to the city of Charlotte, its citizens, and the Democratic Party. Get Involved in the 2010 Elections! Organizing for America and the Democratic Party have launched VOTE 2010, a bold plan to ensure that the millions of voters who came out to the polls for the first time in 2008 vote again in 2010 and ensure that the President has strong allies in office up and down the ballot. To find out more about VOTE 2010 and how you can get involved visit: College Democrats of America Launch New Website! On July 1 st the College Democrats of America launched their brand new website. To celebrate the occasion, CDA held a fundraiser at the DNC to officially launch the site with their members and supporters. Special guests included DNC Vice Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, DCCC Chairman Rep. Chris Van Hollen, Rep. Jason Altmire, and DNC Political Director Clyde Williams. To check out the new website, please visit

For too long, our politics has been poisoned with misinformation, lies and double-speak. The most powerful way to combat these tactics is to drag them into the light of public scrutiny. The Accountability Project is a volunteer platform to document Republican candidates and their public statements at local events, as well as their campaign tactics. The Accountability Project allows you to submit videos, recordings, and other items for publication online, so that candidates see that there's a cost to their dishonesty. This project will enable folks to keep track of Republican candidates running for every office, up and down the ballot. Please help fight back against Republicans' shadowy tactics -- participate in The Accountability Project:
6 Become a Part of Gen44! With his call for change, President Obama empowered a new generation to take a personal stake in electing their representatives. People of all ages, races, religions and economic backgrounds were inspired to take an active role in campaigning for the first time in their lives. But few groups showed as much energy as our newest generation of business, government, public, and private sector leaders. Across the country they turned out in record numbers. They didn t just vote, they donated their time, energy, and enthusiasm -- knocking on doors, calling their neighbors and contributing to the campaign. But as President Obama said, our work didn't end on Election Day. In fact, it has just begun. That's why we've created Generation FortyFour, or Gen44 for short a council designed to cultivate and empower a rising generation of leaders within the Democratic Party. Gen44 is a new organization founded upon some of the campaign's most successful programs Generation Obama (GO) and the DNC TrailBlazers. In order to build up their strong record of success, the DNC merged these critical programs in order to create Gen44. Gen44 will work with a groundbreaking group of leaders, all under the age of 44, and will serve as a platform for political mobilization, ensuring President Obama has the resources and infrastructure needed to implement the change we want to see. To become a part of Gen44 please visit Democratic National Committee Internships Internships at the DNC give students the chance to experience Democratic politics from the inside. Interns will have the opportunity to: - work closely with DNC staff in every department - work on exciting and important projects - help advocate on behalf of President Obama and his agenda - participate in DNC events - meet with DNC staff - take tours across the District This is a great opportunity for motivated, enthusiastic, politically minded students who are eager to learn and willing to work hard. We are currently accepting applications for our summer program! Visit or call for more information about the program or to review the application. *Please note you must be 18 years of age and currently enrolled in a college or university. All DNC internships are unpaid.
