Mayor s Commendation to the Glendale High School Water Polo Team for Winning the Pacific League Tournament Mayor Weaver presented commendations to team members: Arman Momdzhyan, Artak Arzumanyan, Manuk Piloyan, Harut Bandikyan, Levon Gevorkyan, Jayson Wilia, Daniel Sarkissian, David Tiraturyan, Garret Fritz, Bijan Rezvani, Zaven Boyadzhyan, Levon Gukasyan, David Davtian, and Jack Mosier and Coach Forest Holbrook 4. CITY COUNCIL/STAFF COMMENTS Council Member Friedman indicated that the entire Council participated in the Montrose Christmas parade; participated in the 2 nd Annual Jingle Bell Run-Walk Fundraiser Event on Sunday, benefiting the Arthritis Foundation; expressed the desire that the trees on Central Av., replacing those lost during the development projects, be true canopy trees; and questioned why the new street lights were so bright. Council Member Sinanyan commented on the President s visit to Dreamworks, and requested to know why the City of Glendale paid for part of the security detail when the President was in Glendale only to visit Dreamworks, and felt that they should have paid part of the bill; commented on the Ararat Chapter of Homenetmen opening of their children s activity room, and the fact that this was made possible in part by CDBG Funds; attended the Civic Center Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony last Thursday in Perkins Plaza; expressed that the Montrose Christmas Parade was an excellent event; participated in the GUSD Program Principal for a Day yesterday, and requested that the meeting me adjourned in memory of Nelson Mandela. Council Member Najarian indicated that the past two weeks had been exciting including meeting President Obama and the President of the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh, Bako Sahakyan, on the same day, who was impressed with the lights on Central Av., expressed the desire to know how to obtain similar lights for the capital city of his republic, and was impressed with Glendale s recycling program; made a trip to Glendale s Sister City Tlaquepaque; met the former President of Spain Felipe González and was invited to meet the current President of Israel, Shimon Peres, and indicated that a stimulating conversation ensued; and expressed that it was always good to return to Glendale. Council Member Quintero attended several events, including: the Armenian Fund Event and the Montrose Christmas Parade, and indicated that Montrose continues to thrive; requested that a discussion related to the issuance of demolition permits and when buildings are actually allowed to be demolished be placed on a future agenda, seconded by Council Members Friedman and Sinanyan; and announced that Governor Brown appointed him to the Apprenticeship Council to the State, indicated that this was the fourth Governor, under who he had served. 5.
