17 Minority Representation On Planning and Advisory Bodies Requirement Do not deny on grounds of race, color or national origin, the opportunity to participate as a member of a planning or advisory committee Table depicting racial breakdown of committees Description of efforts made to encourage minority participation 17
18 Minority Representation On DART Planning and Advisory Bodies It is the policy of DART to encourage the continuous participation by various groups of DART s Service Area in the policy and decision making processes of the Board of Directors. To accomplish this objective the Board has established and will from time to time appoint individuals to advisory bodies to perform such functions as determined by the Board. The following advisory groups are appointed by DART to serve in a advisory capacity to DART. Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) Members of the CAC are appointed by the DART Board to serve as a two-way communications link between the DART Board, the public, and the various groups interested in the use of public transportation in the geographic area covered by DART. The CAC assist in informing the public about decision and policies established by the DART Board and informing the DART Board on issues and concerns identified by the various constituent groups which the CAC represents. Members of the CAC are resident citizens and registered voters within the boundaries of the DART Service Area, representing the interests of Employers/Business; Transit Users; Homeowners/Tenants Associations and Students/Elderly. Paratransit Access Advisory Group (PAAG) PAAG is a consumer advisory group created by DART to provide an ongoing mechanism for broad-based participation to assist DART in the provision of transit services to persons with disabilities in the community with disabilities. PAAG members consist of component organization advocate agencies and individuals with a variety of disabilities as determined by DART. Component organization advocate agencies determine its representation on PAAG. Dallas Area Rapid Transit Board of Directors DART Board of Directors are appointed by member jurisdictions or combination of member jurisdictions within the service area of DART. To serve on the Board, a person must be a resident of the city making the appointment. A city making more than one appointment shall, to the greatest extent practicable, select persons who accurately reflect the racial and ethnic composition of that city. Members of the Board may submit in writing a request to the Board Chair for appointment to Board committees and other bodies. The Board Chair annually appoints members to serve on each committee of the Board or bodies. The intent of the appointments is to attempt to achieve a balance of Dallas and Suburban representation. 18
