4 1 Overview of Dallas County Texas Election Night Reporting The Dallas County Elections Office uses an online tool called Election Night Reporting (ENR) to display results from elections on a website. The website provides visitors with a graphical view of in-depth county results. You are presented with a breakdown of votes received for a candidate by contest and totals by vote type. Maps illustrate the precincts who are reporting, voter turnout, and results by precinct. A reporting area provides downloadable reports and custom filtering of results. When and How Often Will the Results Be Updated? Once the polling locations have closed, the results are reported to the county. The county uploads results and then begins reporting the results to the public via the ENR tool. Updates occur throughout the night until all polling locations have reported. How Do I Navigate Election Night Reporting? The following pages provide an overview of how to navigate the ENR tool, including the: Home Page; Synopsis Area; Summary Tab; Cumulative Voting Contests; Precincts Reporting Tab; Voter Turnout Tab; Filters Tab; and Reports Button. 4

5 2 Home Page The ENR home page is the landing page, or the main area from which you can locate the information and county results that you need. The screenshot below shows a sample ENR home page: 5

6 3 Header The Header appears at the top of the page, regardless of which page you are on or tab you click. The header includes the: Time stamp that shows when the website was last updated with results; Name of the election; and Banner, which includes the county name and graphics. 4 Synopsis Area The Synopsis Area appears at the top of the page, regardless of which page you are on or tab you click. Within the Synopsis Area, you can find important information, such as: Number of active registered county voters (specific to the current election); Number of ballots cast for the county (specific to the current election); Voter turnout percentage based on the ratio of active registered voters to ballots cast; and Number of precincts reported. 6

7 5 Summary Tab Click on the Summary tab to view the number of votes a candidate has received by contest. 7

8 6 Cumulative Voting Contests Cumulative Voting Contests offer a dropdown option, which are organized by candidate name. In the below example, the candidate names had different oval positions on different ballots. By clicking on a candidate name, the choice expands. The ballot oval selection detail is displayed with the number of votes received by the individual ballot oval. The total of those votes is combined and displays on the same line as the candidate name. 8

9 Clicking on the Search Contests button allows you to customize your search by contest. Click on checkbox next to the races in which you are interested, and then click on the Search button. 9

10 7 Detail View / Map View Views for each contest are on the Summary tab. Below is a Detail view for the contest (notice the Detail button is highlighted in red). Below is a Map view for the contest (notice the Map button is highlighted in red). The candidates have a color code. If the candidate wins a precinct, then the precinct reflects the color code for that candidate. When you hover over the map, individual precinct results display. On the map below, the

11 precinct is shown after hovering over it. The results for that particular contest and the results for each choice display. In addition to the candidate color assignments, there are colors assigned for: A tie in votes for the precinct; A participating precinct that has not reported; and Precincts that are not participating in the contest. In the previous example, the votes are tied for all the participating precincts. Click on the Precincts Reporting icon to see a detailed view of each precinct with the breakdown of the votes by precinct. Displayed below is the precinct breakdown with the number of For and Against votes in each precinct. 11

13 Click on the Vote Type Tabular icon to see a tabular view of the votes organized by vote type group. Click on the Vote Type Summary icon to view results in a bar graph format. Hover over the bars to view the number of votes for each vote type for the contest. In the contest below, only the Early Voting in Person vote type has reported, so the graph only shows the color code for that particular vote type. As other vote type groups report in the evening, the bars become multi-colored, showing the different vote types. 13

14 Clicking on the Vote Types allows you to narrow down your selection to particular vote types. In the example below, the vote types for Prov EV/ED and Early Voting by Mail were selected in order to show the number of votes for Election Day ADA, Election Day, and Early Voting in Person. Since only the Early Voting in Person vote type has reported, the other two vote type groups do not display. Click on the Detail icon to return to the default view of the contest. 14

15 8 Precincts Reporting Tab Click on the Precincts Reporting tab to display the status of the precincts reporting. The example below shows that precincts have not completely reported. Dallas County only uses the Has Not Reported and Completely Reported options. Therefore, the precincts only display grey or green. Green signifies that the Election Day polling locations have reported. 15

16 Click on the Map option in Precincts Reporting to see an overview of the precinct statuses across the County. In the below example, the participating precincts are colored grey to show the precincts that have not reported their polling location results. When the precincts report their results, they display green, which signifies that they have Completely Reported. 16

17 9 Voter Turnout Tab Click on the Voter Turnout tab to view the voter turnout information for each precinct. Below is an example in the Detail view: A Map view is also available. Hover over a certain precinct to view the breakdown of the Ballots Cast, Registered Voters, and the Voter Turnout for that particular precinct. 17

18 10 Filters Tab Click on the Filters tab to view the filtering options for selecting results by Vote Type and Precinct. Click on the Search Contests button to view a specific contest. 18

20 11 Reports Button The Reports button appears regardless of which page you are on or tab you click. Clicking this button allows you to view reports that capture data for the latest set of results. After clicking the Reports button, the following pop-up appears. Select the type of report by clicking the Download button for the report. Available report options may vary by election. 20
