Družba za raziskave v cestni in prometni stroki Slovenije, in cooperation with civic professional associations, is organizing the traditional 13 th SLOVENIAN CONGRESS ON ROADS AND TRAFFIC, taking place on October 19 th and 20 th 2016 in the congress centre of the Grand hotel Bernardin in Portorož. Also this time the congress will offer the opportunity to meet with colleagues, friends and experts, currently active in the field of traffic and traffic infrastructure. The searching for and obtaining of new knowledge and insights, the exchange of experiences and ideas, as well as the presentation of solutions to the encountered problems are the challenges, which repeatedly invite us to meat. These are still difficult times for civil engineering and this is precisely why we have to cooperate, advance our education and develop our expertise. In the past, the Slovenian filed of civil engineering had gained great international reputation through its achievements and it is our duty to preserve it, despite the lack of financial resources. Thus the congress presents both an opportunity and an obligation, to pass our knowledge on to the young generations of experts. And therefore it is also our duty to continue the tradition of the biennially Slovenian Congress, with your cooperation, also in the future. The proposal was put forward, to prepare an analysis and the review of tasks, conclusions and resolutions from past congresses, as well as the completed tasks over the past 25 years of independence. This might serve as the basis for a dialog with the politics on the implementation of the commitments agreed. Also the 13 th congress will be held over two days yet in a bit more modest dimensions; however we do not wish to support random cost-cutting without opening new perspectives and sparking optimism over the future development of the field and the various traffic operations. With the slogan of the 13 th congress Traffic in infrastructure in Slovenia a burden or the engine of development we wish to encourage reflection among the entire public in order to finally realise, that without a modern, developed, safe, high-quality and long-term oriented road and railway infrastructure the development of the economy of local communities, regions and subsequently the entire country will not be possible. Therefore we have to try our best, both individually and together to help in achieving our common goals. Just claiming demands from society is not enough; it is also necessary to do something for the common good. A big number of preliminary registrations show that we are on the right way. More than 70 authors showed the interest to present their papers. The participation on the congress represents a big and indispensable opportunity for a social gathering, for the exchange of views, ideas and experiences in overcoming of barriers and represents new business opportunities for our work in the future. Therefore we kindly invite all who are involved in the processes of planning, construction, maintenance and management of traffic infrastructure, the users, representatives of civil associations and all who in various ways decide and impact on the future and development of all segments of traffic systems in Slovenia to attend the 13 th Slovenian congress on roads and transportation. We kindly invite also our colleagues and friends from the related professional societies and associations from abroad to attend the 13 th Slovenian congress on roads and transportation. The 13 th Slovenian congress on roads and transportation will begin with the invited preliminary lectures, where the exposed topics will be presented, which according to our opinion deserve special treatment, therefore they will be presented in the introductory part of the event. We shall examine which of the planed infrastructure projects we managed to complete in the 25 years of the independence of Slovenia and which important project are still waiting to be realised both on the national road and railway network as well as on many places of the already heavily overburdened motorways. We will also discuss the economic aspects and importance of the comprehensive

After completed introductory lectures the round table discussion will follow with the topic Traffic infrastructure in Slovenia a burden or the engine of development. We think that this is a very actual issue, which faces different opinions of experts and politicians. Traffic safety is an important topic, which deserves a special emphasize on the 13 th congress. In the afternoon we shall get to know how the traffic safety is being planned and managed on the base of a long term experiences on the road network in single European countries like Denmark, Ireland, Hungary, Germany and the Netherlands. Single papers will be presented by eminent experts participating in the Conference of Directors of Roads Directorates of European countries (CEDR). The continuation of the congress will be held under the themes and professional expert sections where the actual topics, related to husbandry and the management of traffic infrastructure will be discussed. We will learn about new materials and technologies; we shall talk about the sustainable traffic development, e-mobility and the multi-modality, as well as about intelligent transport systems. On sections we will discuss the traffic safety, as most of us are daily on the roads and are very aware that on this field we still have a lot to do if we want to achieve the set goals of the common European vision»0«. A special work shop will be organised for the topic related to traffic control. The railway transport is with no doubt an important component of the long-term sustainable integrated transport system of the future. On the first day of the 13 th Slovenian congress on roads and transportation we will also celebrate the 25 years of the successful operation of the company DRC, Družba za raziskave v cestni in prometni stroki with a short cultural programme and the awards to deserving employees and companies. The detailed programme of the congress will be presented in the third announcement and on the website of DRC before the beginning of the congress in October We are specially inviting all potential sponsors to support the congress with understanding. FESTIVE CELEBRATION OF THE 25 TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE COMPANY DRC In the year 2016 the company DRC is celebrating the silver anniversary of its work in the field of roads and traffic. Since it s founding in the year 1991 the company has been actively following the realizations of road programs, encouraging the development of the road and the entire traffic field of expertise, combining different professional activities and participating in the work of Slovenian associations from the field of roads and traffic. With the organization of the traditional biennial congress on roads and traffic, as well as different expert consultations and conferences, aiming at solving of problems and finding new ground-breaking ideas, the association has brought together a vast group of experts, active in the individual and rather different fields, connected by the construction of traffic infrastructure while simultaneously encouraging the cooperation among universities, institutes, the contractors, major investors and politics. Together we have gone through nice and harsh times. The 13 th congress on roads and traffic offers us the possibility to celebrate with colleagues and friends and toast to our silver anniversary. GRANTING OF AWARDS WITH CULTURAL PROGRAMME The cultural programme with granting of awards will be held on Wednesday, October 19 th 2016 at 19 a.m. in the Hall Europa of the congress centre of the Grand hotel Bernardin in Portorož. The reception for all participants of the congress will be held at 20 p.m. in the lobby of the Grand hotel Bernardin.

The biennial event is usually distinguished by a large number of participants and the great interest of the media. It is also worth of taking the advantage of the traditional presence of the most important representatives of the economy and the government. The organiser offers to exhibitors the next possibilities: Renting of the exhibition space in the lobby in front of the hall EUROPA of the congress centre Bernardin, of dimension of 6 m 2 (2x3 m) approximate.
